YAHWEH KANAH—THE JEALOUS LORD
"FOR ISRAEL HAS FORGOTTEN HIS MAKER, And has built temples; Judah also has multiplied fortified cities; But I will send fire upon his cities, And it shall devour his palaces."
Hosea 8:14 (NKJV)
Comment: One of the major sins of the Israelites in the old testament is idolatry. This sin grieves God's heart. It is a way of relegating God, resisting His authority in a person's life. Being a jealous God, He would not want anyone or anything to take His place: "DON'T WORSHIP ANY OTHER god. I AM YAHWEH KANAH—THE JEALOUS LORD. THAT IS MY NAME. I HATE FOR MY PEOPLE TO WORSHIP OTHER gods" (Exodus 34:14 Easy-to-Read Version).
"DO NOT WORSHIP ANY OTHER god INSTEAD OF ME. I AM THE LORD AND I WANT YOU TO BELONG TO ME ALONE."
Exodus 34:14 (EasyEnglish Bible)
God wants you to belong to Him alone. The glory of whatever He did in your life should not be given to anyone or any graven image (Isaiah 42:8).
In the contemporary time, believers are to guide against neo-idolatry; having the affection that is due God for any other thing or person is a new form of idolatry that could attract God's wrath.
Whoever or whatever you give a place in your heart, which is meant for God, would be allowed to disappoint you. Such would be used by God as a rod or cane to discipline you.
No one, no matter how important the person is, should be accorded the honour that should be given to God.
The fact that God is silent on a number of things in your life does not mean you can do whatever you like, as a believer in Christ Jesus. You cannot treat God the way you like.
Always remember that we are sheep of His pasture: "KNOW THAT THE LORD, HE IS GOD; IT IS HE WHO HAS MADE US, and not we ourselves; WE ARE HIS PEOPLE AND THE SHEEP OF HIS PASTURE" (Psalm 100:3 NKJV).
"FOR HE IS OUR GOD, AND WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF HIS PASTURE, AND THE SHEEP OF HIS HAND. Today, if you will hear His voice" (Psalm 95:7 NKJV).
We are nothing of ourselves without Him (John 5:19; 15:5).
When I look at some people, I wonder how they think, and what they think of themselves or who they think they are before God.
The truth is, there is no person who is strong before God. No one is powerful or great before Him. Whoever anyone is, and whatever he or she thinks they have, is nothing before God.
God is no person's equal or mate. God is the Creator of the whole universe, the Maker of all things, without Him, nothing will be. He is great and awesome.
What God would not want is rebellion. When you disrespect or dishonour Him. How do you disrespect or dishonour God?
a. When you refused to do His bidding. b. When you willfully disobeyed or disregarded His Word or commands.
God would not be happy with whoever willingly disobeyed His Word or commands.
Peace.
