"I WILL ALSO GATHER ALL NATIONS, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; AND I WILL ENTER INTO JUDGMENT WITH THEM THERE ON ACCOUNT OF [because of] MY PEOPLE, MY HERITAGE ISRAEL, WHOM THEY HAVE SCATTERED AMONG THE NATIONS; THEY HAVE ALSO DIVIDED UP MY LAND."
Joel 3:2 (NKJV)

Comment: God said He would enter into Judgement with other nations on account of, for the sake of, His people—Israel. Why did He want to do that? He said the other nations have scattered His heritage, Israel, among the nations. And they had divided up His land (Joel 3:2).
God definitely will avenge for those who are His. This is the reason why He said in His Word that vengeance belongs to Him, He will avenge (Leviticus 19:18; Romans 12:19; Luke 18:7,8).
Believers are to allow God to defend them and fight their cause, they should not fight for themselves (Matthew 5:39-42).
It is difficult for some people, even believers, to agree with some of these teachings. And these things are taught by Jesus Christ Himself. If God said you should not avenge for yourself (Leviticus 19:28), and Jesus said you should not resist an evil person (Matthew 5:39); Does that mean He would go to sleep and fold His hands without minding whatever other persons do to you? Of course, not. He would not do that. He wanted you to obey Him first.

God would surely deal with whoever mistreated a believer, a child of God. Like God said He would deal with other nations who treated Israel badly at the time of their distress and predicament. If anyone touched you, maltreated you, and you tell the matter to God, the person would surely be dealt with. God promises to avenge for the elect who called on Him day and night speedily (Luke 18:7,8).
The instruction given by God not to avenge yourself is a test on the flesh, the human nature. It is a normal way of reacting or responding for the flesh or human nature to get back at whoever offended them. Flesh or human nature would want to fight back. This is where the struggle with the flesh comes in, for the believers (Romans 7:15,17-19; Galatians 6:16,17).
The flesh wants to retaliate, fight back, keep a grudge or malice, but God says, do not do that (Galatians 6:16,17). This is why the flesh is one of the three major enemies of the believers. The flesh, the world, and the devil are the enemies of the believers.
a. What God says you should not do, the flesh would want to do it (Romans 7:22,23).
b. The world, the evil system of the world, would always be there to lure you to do contrary to the instructions given to you by God (1 John 2:15-17).
c. The devil, the archenemy of the believers, is also there with his demons to influence you negatively and do contrary to the Will of God (Ephesians 2:2,3; Revelation 12:17).
You obey the instruction given to you by God, not to avenge yourself, and wait and see what He, God, would do in response to your obedience.
Forgive whoever mistreated you and let God have His way (Matthew 6:12,14,15; 18:32-35).
Your obedience to God's Word determines the level of His involvement in the matters of your life. Peace.
