I've sung this song so many times in church and it still amazes me of how universal a Worship song can be.

This song is very special to me and my family, because this was the Worship song that our little son picked up Worshipping God at 2 years old -- singing with all of his might with his little toy guitar and play head-set.

Chris Tomlin wrote this song when he was living in Austin, Texas. He remembered sitting on his sofa in his little apartment. And Psalm 104 came up...

It said, 'You our lord are very great. You're clothed with splendour and majesty, wrap yourself with light as with a garment' – through those opening verses and just describing a little bit of God, the glory of majesty, that little chorus came out. He started singing the chorus and he had no idea, he thought the chorus was just a little simple thing and it was. Source

He didn't have a bridge to the song, and he met Ed Cash who produced that record it was on. And he remembered Ed just picked his guitar up and and said, 'This 'How Great is Our God' song, I think it's pretty good, but it's not finished. What if you do something like this?' And Chris remembered Ed just started singing, 'You're the name above all names, you are worthy of our praise.' And it's really good, and when you open up and let somebody else sneak in, it just makes it better. So that's when they knew it was taking it to another level. Source

As it represents ALL the different tribes and tongues singing in one accord... PRAISE GOD!!!

One day in Heaven, I believe this will be a one of those anthem songs that will be sung, lead by perhaps Chris as well. :)
