Don't Lose Sight Of The Lord

2 Kings 1:3 says,

the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?

Ahaziah, the king of Samaria, fell down through a lattice in the upper chamber of his home in Samaria and took ill. Interestingly rather than seek the Lord's help, the king sent his messengers to enquire of the idol of a foreign land.

Ahaziah's lineage can be traced to the likes of king David and ultimately to the father of faith and friend of God, Abraham. His forebears were acquainted with the Lord and saw His miracles in the wilderness, forty long years.

The sea was parted for them to walk on dry ground, they feed from the manna that fell in the wilderness, they took down mighty cities. However, despite such an impressive lineage, this man sought refuge from the works of men's hands.

Ahaziah's demise didn't start in one day. His father and mother never really introduced him to the Lord. His mother was an idol worshipper; his father, Ahab, though knew of the Lord chose rather to follow his wife to serve idols and turned his back on the God of his progenitor.

Despite having access to the saving knowledge of the Lord from the king's archives, Ahaziah, much like his father, chose to walk in the steps of Ahab, his father.

The failure of his parents to introduce him to the Lord, caused this young king his life and his heart was easily drawn away from the Lord unto those dumb idols.

What we give attention to over the years has a way of either pulling us towards God or taking us farther from Him. In Ahaziah's case, it took his heart away and caused him the kingdom and his life.

Irrespective of what your goals are this year, do not lose sight of the Lord!.
