The Language of the Blood...
The precious blood of Jesus is the salvation from sin, but not in the way that much of Christian theology believes that it is. The blood did not purchase forgiveness for us. The blood did not pay the penalty of sin for us. The blood did not appease an angry God. God did not need the blood, WE were the ones that needed the blood. Why? Because we needed sin to be EXPOSED, so that we could be liberated FROM our false religious ideas of scapegoating and violence, and move towards love, mercy, grace and forgiveness.
The blood saves us, NOT because it buys redemption from God. We always had redemption from God. The blood saves us, NOT because it buys reconciliation from God. We were always reconciled where the Father was concerned. II Corinthians 5:19 states that 'God was in Christ Jesus reconciling the WORLD unto Himself'. He was not reconciling Himself to us, because He was always reconciled to us, but He was reconciling the WORLD unto Himself. We were alienated and enemies IN OUR MIND. One of the meanings of the word 'reconcile' is, To Agree. He wanted us to agree that we were always reconciled to Him. The blood did not pay some sort of debt in some divine heavenly bank account in heaven somewhere; He had already taken care of that through His love from all eternity.
The blood is precious because it revealed the most important thing that mankind needed to know about. Mankind needed to know that God was not the one that demanded blood, WE needed the blood in order to have our sin exposed and solve our sin problem. By Jesus dying as a scapegoat on the Cross refusing to retaliate, He revealed the love of the Father. He walked out what He preached when He said to 'love your enemies' and 'turn the other cheek'. So the song entitled: "Nothing But The Blood" is still an appropriate song to sing, only we can change the words a bit, and sing: "What revealed to me my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can bring me peace again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh precious is the flow, that unveils what it does show. No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus."
