Stuart Memorial Church was a famous Christian church in the history of Hangchow and the largest of the 5 churches established by the Southern Presbyterian Mission. It was Located on the southwest side of the intersection of Qingchun Road and Huansha Road, next to Zhuangan Bridge.

The construction began in 1915, and was completed in 1917. Regrettably, this church was closed in 1966, and finally demolished in 1977.

It was built in memory of John Linton Stuart, the pioneering founder of the Southern Presbyterian Mission's church in Hangzhou, who passed away in 1913.

John Leighton Stuart, one of his sons, was a missionary educator, the first President of Yenching University and later United States ambassador to China.

在杭州的历史上，湖山堂（Stuart Memorial Church）是一座著名的基督教堂，是美国南长老会在杭州建设的五大教堂中最大的一座。它座落在杭州庆春路和浣纱路交口的南侧，紧邻众安桥。

湖山堂的建设工程开始于1915年，并于1917年完工。令人遗憾的是，这座教堂在1966年被关闭，后来又在1977年被拆除。

湖山堂是为了纪念美国南长老会传教士司徒尔（John Linton Stuart）。司徒尔是美国南长老会在杭州传教的先驱，于1913年在杭州逝世。

他有个儿子，名叫司徒雷登（John Leighton Stuart），是一名著名的传教士教育家，是中国历史上著名的大学燕京大学的创办人。后来，他还担任了美国驻华大使。
