English news:
Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam to withdraw extradition bill
"Many demonstrators now say they will not stop holding rallies without a genuinely independent inquiry into the Hong Kong police force and universal suffrage in this region"
--- Yep, too little, too late. After Lam has let her police run amok for weeks you can hardly expect the protesters to be satisfied with the announcement "to move a motion to withdraw the bill when the Legco resumes" (so no immediate withdrawal, anyway).
Hong Kong: will scrapping extradition bill end the protests?
"Lam said again on Wednesday she would not set up an independent body to investigate alleged police brutality. She said the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) already took responsibility for that"
--- Only that it's not really independent. It's essentially the police investigating the police. & although I heard some rather rational voice from inside the IPCC, they have virtually no power to investigate.

Carrie Lam: Hong Kong leader 'never tendered resignation to Beijing'
"She said it was "totally unacceptable" that her remarks made in private had been recorded and passed to the media."
--- So, she admits that she said it, but says that she didn't say it? Sounds like Trump.
Hong Kong: Timeline of extradition protests
China sows disinformation on Hong Kong using porn accounts on Twitter
"Whoever purchased those accounts was likely hoping that their large follower count could make the content coming from those accounts look more legitimate"
--- Funny, how these commie propaganda campaigns forget to do basic research. Same when they try to employ "influencers" for tourism campaigns. They see that they talk about China in general, but don't really care which topics they cover in which tone.
Hong Kong protests: How Zara became the new target of Chinese anger
"Show some sincerity Zara. I hope you will apologise and give a [proper] answer. If not, get out"
--- Typical nammie logic: what they want is not sincerity, but a kowtow in which you lie how much you love China & repent all your sins against it.
China’s Twitter operation focused on this exiled tycoon before Hong Kong protests
"before tweets about Hong Kong saw an uptick in April of this year, they focused on other people the Communist Party of China deems opponents"
--- Only to be expected, I suppose. If you have propaganda tools, why only use them on one target?
Hong Kong Was Once Passionate About China. Now, It’s Indifferent or Contemptuous.
"Young Hong Kongers want nothing to do with China. They have no more interest in subverting China than they do in subverting Zimbabwe"
--- That must hurt in Beijing.
"For a foreigner, Hong Kong still feels unquestionably Chinese"
--- Seriously? Never had that impression. For me, it always appeared as a nice fusion between East & West.
Confirm Eligible Hong Kongers as British Citizens
"The decision to strip Hong Kongers of their rights as British citizens was wrong and counterproductive."
--- Yes, but it wouldn't help much, either. China has shown time & again that it doesn't really care which nationalities people have. Whenever they had Chinese ancestors they are considered Chinese subjects.
China school attack: Eight children killed at Hubei primary
"Officials did not say how the students were killed and the attacker's motive was not immediately clear."
--- Probably the usual: He stabbed them because he thought he was treated unfairly by "society". Pretty common in China; what the mass shootings are for the USA mass stabbings (usually of children) are for China.
China says Taiwan was always part of it, but an old stamp shows a telling propaganda snafu
"Take this postage stamp from 1968 [...]: it portrays a red map of China with the words “The Whole Country Is Red” [...] Taiwan lies in its correct place, but it’s lily-white"
--- Just a tiny mistake. Could happen anywhere. The one responsible for this oversight surely has paid the price (by losing his head).
Chinese city sells discounted pork as meat prices soar
"From Sept. 1, people in Nanning [...] can buy up to 1 kg of pork a day at a discount of more than 10% to the average market price"
--- Didn't they tell us a few weeks ago that they had everything under control? What a surprise...
Smile-to-pay: Chinese shoppers turn to facial payment technology
"“The facial recognition technology helps to protect our privacy,” explains IFuree engineer Li Dongliang"
--- That's privacy with Chinese characteristics, of course. Which means state & companies know everything about you (& would only sell that knowledge for a very good price).
China's Xi says country facing a period of 'concentrated risks'
"the country must be able to fight and win against those who challenge China’s bottom lines"
--- You already challenge China's bottom lines, when you criticize anything Chinese. So, you know what you have to expect from a China-dominated future.
Su Shaozhi obituary
"“There is too much concentration of power, no democracy and no real supervision of government officials,” he said early in 1989"
--- & look where we are now: a new emperor & everything is fine under the Chinese sun...
‘Our Government Doesn’t Want to Spoil Relations with China’
"I had to end my activism against China. It was that or seven years in jail."
--- Freedom with Chinese characteristics. Now available in Kazakhstan, soon in a country near you.

Deutsche Nachrichten:
Was denkt der Autor denn?
