Making a chicken house!🐔
Hello steemians today I will be sharing my homemade chicken house.
My family and I have recently been making a chicken house for all of our chickens that we own. We started of with collecting pallets from my Dad’s work and around the town, so far we have used about 8 but we still do not have enough. When collecting pallets we made sure that we only picked up ones marked “ht” on the side, this means the wood has been heat treated and not painted with chemicals to preserve the timber. We never pick up any pallets that are not heat treated but it was particularly important for this project as this would be where our chickens spend a lot of their time.
Before we started building we started off by creating the frame for the coop such as the legs and the roof. Then we began to dismantle the pallets and take out all of the nails and collected all of the ones we dismantled put them to one side. This is the house so far...
As you can see we haven’t done much because the weather has been on and off with the sunshine and it’s been quite difficult carrying on with the coop.
in these pictures all the pallets we collected have been dismantled and put together on top of each other and screwed onto the frame, but we don’t have quite enough pallets for all the walls.
The doors of the coup have not yet been added because we need to have built all the walls in order to put the heavy doors on.
We have two of these doors so that when the coup needs cleaning we can open them and it will be easier to clean out, we designed the coop to be tall enough to fit a wheelbarrow underneath the doors so that the dirt can quickly and easily be scraped out straight into the wheelbarrow. We have also decided to have a sloped roof so that when it rains we can collect the water for the chickens as it is much healthier!
I will be posting updates on the chicken coop so keep updated on my post !
Thanks🐔
