CHECKMATE #101-INTRODUCTION

in #chess7 years ago (edited)

HI STEEMIANS!
I am going to be teaching us how to play chess.
In this episode we are going to know what chess is and what it entails.

WHAT IS CHESS?
Chess is a two player strategical interesting game. It is played on a chess board with 32 pieces.
16 pieces to each player. Pieces consisting of one king , one queen , two knights , two bishops , two rooks and eight pawns. Each of these pieces have their ways in which they move. The most powerful being the queen and weakest the pawn.

Lest i forget, Chess it believed to have originated from India many years ago. Probably the 7th century.
The first generally recognized World Chess Champion, Wilhelm Steinitz, claimed his title in 1886. Since 1948, the World Championship has been regulated by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), the game's international governing body. FIDE also awards life-time master titles to skilled players, the highest of which is grandmaster. The Current Grandmaster is MAGNUS CARLSEN FROM NORWAY.
The best grandmaster I believe is Bobby Fischer.

How to win?
The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture. To this end, a player's pieces are used to attack, pressure and capture the opponent's pieces, while supporting each other. In addition to checkmate, the game can be won by voluntary resignation of the opponent, which typically occurs when too much material is lost or checkmate appears inevitable. There are also several ways a game can end in a draw.

THE CHESS BOARD
The chess board is 64 squared board with 8 column and 8 rows. The squares are arranged in two contrasting colors (Light and Dark). For commentary sake the columns also called files are labelled by the letters a to h and the rows also called ranks and labelled 1 to 8.
Each square on the chess board has a name from a1 to h8.

Let me tell you a secret about the chess board.
In order to control the game of chess you need to control the center of the chess board.
There are four squares, if you are able to have control of them you have control over the game.

Take a look at the squares.[d4,d5,e4,e5]
