A Classic Puzzle

in #chess8 years ago

White is to move and checkmates in 2 moves.

I remember years ago when I played scholastic chess, we were a group of youngsters around a board with this problem on it,
after we had been there trying to solve for a while the strongest of us jokingly made the correct move, but he didn't mean so he put it back again, I however was a little more alert than the rest of us, and suggested it as the correct move.

Now let us see if you can solve this.

Sort:
  1. Ra6 bxa6 (if bishop moves 2. Rxa7#) 2. b7 #

I suppose you know that one ?

Indeed, I saw it before (on the other side of the board, rook on the h-file), when somebody asked me to solve it. Really nice one.

I like the fact that it so clearly illustrate zugzwang, black would clearly be fine if he did not have to move.

tell me the answer its driving me a crazy lol or can you give a hint on what to move first!

The solution is in the comments :D
