RE: Steemit Challenge - Proof of Taste (first idea)
Global availability will be easier to verify. I can base the research on those nationalities that are the most represented on the platform (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ukraine, etc.), making sure the ingredients are available in their local markets.
Affordability may be tricky—in countries like Argentina or Venezuela, all imported products are priced much higher. I definitely wouldn’t include ingredients like caviar, Angus steak, or truffles, but I also don’t want to oversimplify it to basic products unrelated to regional cuisine, like mentioned by you eggs and flour.
Giving Steemians the choice to select one out of three options each time also helps here: if one ingredient isn’t available, they can focus on another.
To give you an example, let’s say the theme is China:
The three options could be
- ginger and garlic,
- rice noodles,
3)tofu.
While making rice noodles the main star is the easiest option, they might not be available in some villages or smaller towns. Tofu would make it easier to build a vegetarian meal, but it also may be hard to find. Selecting just garlic as an ingredient would be too general, but mixing it with ginger adds more of a Chinese character to the dish. These two ingredients are common worldwide and may be the best option for those living far from cities with limited access to the other choices.
