"Peñeros"

In Venezuela they are called "Peñeros". Peñeros are wooden craft boats, painted in bright colors, which fishermen use for their work at sea.
I lived for many years in a beautiful city in eastern Venezuela, Lechería, where there is a picturesque fishing village, which I used to do and take photographs. There is something in those peñeros that moves me so much. Perhaps it is its color, but it can also be the touch with wood, and that interaction of wood with water. When you go sailing you hear the water of the sea hit the boat below and on the sides, and that, knocks at the door of my constant inspiration for this world of fishermen, all their environment. En Venezuela se llaman "Peñeros". Los peñeros son botes artesanales de madera, pintados en colores vivos, que los usan los pescadores para sus labores en el mar.
Yo viví muchos años en una bella ciudad en el oriente venezolano, Lechería, en donde hay una pintoresca aldea de pescadores, la que yo frecuentaba para hacer y hacer fotografías. Hay algo en esos peñeros que a mi me mueve tanto. Quizás sea su colorido, pero también puede ser el tacto con la madera, y esa interacción de la madera con el agua. Cuando vas navegando escuchas el agua del mar golpear el bote por debajo y por los costados, y eso, llama a la puerta de mi inspiración constante por este mundo de los pescadores, todo su entorno. Ahora incluyo sus rancherías desordenadas pero que ellos conocen a la perfección. Sus redes, sus utensilios...
