Cerro Chirripo ⛰ / Chirripo Summit ⛰

El cerro Chirripó es un macizo de 3.820 metros de altitud que forma parte de la cordillera de Talamanca y es el pico más alto de Costa Rica, el Cerro Ventisqueros el segundo pico más alto.

Cerro Chirripó is a 3,820-meter high massif that is part of the Talamanca mountain range and is the highest peak in Costa Rica, Cerro Ventisqueros the second highest peak.

Para esta aventura decidí hacerla por mi cuenta, contacte a un guía y él ya tenia otras personas con las cuales íbamos a ascender al Chirripo.
Para términos de entrada al Parque Nacional Chirripo se debe hacer una reserva con meses de anticipación y el día antes presentarte a las oficinas del Parque a realizar el registro, ademas del envió de tus maletas que las llevan en caballos hasta el albergue, ya que realizar este recorrido con tus maletas no es nada fácil por eso si decides llevar tu maleta por tu cuenta se recomienda llevar estrictamente lo necesario.

For this adventure I decided to do it on my own, contact a guide and he already had other people with whom we were going to ascend to Chirripo.
For terms of entry to the Chirripo National Park you must make a reservation months in advance and the day before you will be presented to the Park offices to make the registration, in addition to sending your bags that carry them on horses to the lodge. This journey with your suitcases is not easy, so if you decide to take your suitcase on your own, it is recommended to carry strictly what is necessary.

Hicimos un muy buen desayuno ya que lo que nos esperaba requería fuerzas,salimos a las 6 a. m, llegar al albergue nos tomo 6 horas este es un trayecto de 14 kilómetros.

We had a very good breakfast because we need to be full of energy, we left at 6 a. m, getting to the lodge took us 6 hours this is a 14-kilometer journey.

El trayecto es difícil no voy a mentir pero tampoco es imposible, el bosque por el que se debe caminar es hermoso.

The journey is difficult I'm not going to lie but it's not impossible either, the forest you have to walk through is beautiful.

Hay una zona donde se puede observar como sufrió el Parque debido a los incendios que fueron causados por la mano del hombre.

There is an area where you can observe how the Park suffered due to the fires that were caused by the hand of man.

De camino te encuentras este mensaje que definitivamente te da la motivación de continuar.

Al ver este rótulo es un alivio, la señal que lograste llegar al albergue.

Detrás de mi se pueden ver Los Crestones, que en el año 2011 fueron declarados Símbolo Nacional de Costa Rica.

Behind me you can see The Crestones, which in 2011 were declared National Symbol of Costa Rica.

Llegamos a las 12 medio día, almorzamos y decidimos que saldríamos a las 2 p. m a conocer Cerro Ventisqueros que se encontraba a 3 kilómetros desde el albergue, este Cerro es el segundo pico más alto de Costa Rica. Su cima se encuentra a 3812 msnm, con tan solo 8 metros de diferencia con el Cerro Chirripó, entonces podíamos decir que era una práctica para lo que nos esperaba al día siguiente, valía totalmente la pena, una llovizna nos intentaba quitar las ganas de ir, pero igual insistimos y seguimos caminando, no nos arrepentimos para nada ya que observamos un atardecer hermoso.

We arrived at 12 noon, had lunch and decided that we would leave at 2 p.m. We wanted to visit Cerro Ventisqueros, which was 3 kilometers from the lodge, this Cerro is the second highest peak in Costa Rica. Its summit is at 3812 meters, with only 8 meters of difference with Cerro Chirripó, then we could say that it was a practice for what awaited us the next day, it was totally worth it, a drizzle tried to take away the desire to go , but we insist and continue walking, we do not regret anything because we observe a beautiful sunset.

Al terminar de mirar el hermoso atardecer decidimos volver ya que venía la noche y debíamos descansar porque la parte mas difícil nos esperaba, el ascenso al Cerro Chirripo.

When we finished looking at the beautiful sunset we decided to go back, the night came and we had to rest because the hardest part awaited us, the ascent to Cerro Chirripo.

Llegamos a cenar y bañarnos, ese fue el baño que más he pensado en toda mi vida, a la altura en la que estaba se podrán imaginar como estaba el agua de helada.

We arrived to have dinner and to bath, that was the most dificult bath that I had in my life, the water was freezing.

A las 8 p. m se apagan las luces en el albergue ya que nos debemos levantar en la madrugada, porque el mayor objetivo de hacer el ascenso al Chirripo es ver el amanecer.
Desde el albergue hasta el Cerro son 5 kilómetros más.

At 8 p. m lights go out in the lodge, because the main objective of making the ascent to the Chirripo was to see the sunrise and we had to wake early.
From the lodge to the Cerro are 5 kilometers more.

La caminata en la madrugada, con una temperatura bajo 0, con ascensos de pendientes difíciles, tengo que admitir es de las cosas que mayor esfuerzo físico han requerido en mi vida.

The walk in the early morning, with a low temperature 0, with ascents of difficult slopes, I have to admit that it was one of the most fisical difficult things I did in my life.

De camino se pueden observar varios lagos, rocas curiosas y caminos muy bonitos.

On the way you can see several curious lakes, rocks and beautiful roads.

El ascenso al Cerro te pide hasta la ultima gota de energía, pero al llegar y ver el rótulo que indica que llegaste, es una satisfacción increíble, se te olvida todo.

The ascent to the Cerro asks you for the last drop of energy, but when you arrive and see the sign that indicates that you arrived, it is an incredible satisfaction, you forget everything.

Al llegar estábamos a -2°C , yo no soy una persona que soporte mucho el frío, por lo que se imaginaran como temblaba. Lastimosamente al llegar estaba nublado.

When we arrived we were at -2 ° C, I am not a person that supports the cold very much, so they imagined how it trembled. Unfortunately when I arrived it was cloudy.

Luego se fue despejando un poco.

Then it was clearing a little.

Caminamos alrededor para tener diferentes vistas.

We walk around to have different views.

Al terminar de observar el amanecer empezamos a hacer el descenso ya que nos esperaban 5 kilómetros de regreso al albergue y 14 kilómetros más hacía la entrada del Parque. Al regreso se dura menos tiempo lo hicimos en 4 horas.

At the end of observing the sunrice we started to make the descent, 5 km back to the lodge and 14 more towards the entrance of the Park. Returning took us less time we did it in 4 hours.

Definitivamente es una experiencia que quiero volver a repetir, ya que quedaron muchos lugares sin conocer.

It is definitely an experience that I want to repeat again, there were many places without knowing.
