Cervantes Magazine - Vol 19
Who at any time in his life has not been enthralled by someone or something? Who has not turned admiration into indescribable, irrational and inexplicable love? We carry the ability to "idolize" very much within all of us.
When we worship through an object, this act is called "idolatry" in the Bible, according to the book of Exodus 20:4
"You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
Meanwhile, in the Bhagavad-gītā (Hindu sacred book) it indicates that, rather than an invitation to renounce history, what the message of the Bhagavad-Gita reveals to us is the danger of the idolatry of History. All Hindu thought insists on this point, ignorance and illusion do not consist so much in living in history as in believing that it has an ontological reality.
It is curious that different religions warn us about "idolatry" when they all have material symbols that occupy a special place and a great importance.
But undoubtedly, "Idolatry" is dangerous, transmitting an admiration to an object can be fatal, especially because objects can be stolen, worn or destroyed.
Now, on the subject that concern us, without a doubt our first natural "Idols" are our father and mother. Those two people who bring us to the world and try to teach us how it works. We are what we are, thanks or in spite of them.
As soon as we go out into the world, our dreams, ramblings and loves are varied according to the time, place, age and sex. However, it is common for juvenile "Idols" to be supported by the media, making them popular. From the Beatles, New Kids on the Block, Justin Bieber, One Direction or Victor Jara, Pablo Milanes, Mercedes Sosa ... and more than one rocker teenager who remembers Sepultura, Metallica, Pantera, Ramones or Sex Pistols.
There are so many types of musicians that have covered our walls in posters or that we follow in social networks that we can’t count them. But beware, it is not wrong to say "Tell me who you follow and I will tell you who you are".
Our life is surrounded by idols and even someone may admire us, Cervantes himself admired, even more than Amadis of Gaul, Tirant lo Blanch. When reading the Quixote, in the VI chapter, in the passage in which the priest saves the protagonist of the bonfire, the following text can be read:
"God bless me!" said the curate with a shout, "'Tirante el Blanco' here! Hand it over, gossip, for in it I reckon I have found a treasury of enjoyment and a mine of recreation.”
He says it while he saves it from the bonfire, referring to the Valencian Joanot Martorell, published in Valencia in 1490, as a "treasure of contentment and mine of pastimes" and does not hesitate to consider it for his style, "the best book in the world".
We all have idols, they unknowingly influence our creations, research or achievements. Without fear or embarrassment we sit down to talk about:
Hello and good day.
In this edition of Cervantes magazine, where the “Idols” topic is discussed, I’ll be in in charge of the Sainetes section.
Hello, Steemit community!, on the subject of idols i could say that I'm not used to pay attention to it, but that doesn’t mean that from time to time news break in the world of video games about great players who do extraordinary things to earn a place in the community and thus, be a reference for many amateurs who are surprised by their skills in times of tension.
I don’t care much for idols, I’ve never had a reference figure that marked my life, I know I’m not the only one so it’s ok. The Fan phenomenon turns certain people into idols that, over time, it is demonstrated that they should not have been reference for an amoeba even, and others that went unnoticed but, for various reasons, managed to become idols after death. We are going to make a brief review about the idols of cinema and some more recent ones that have emerged from the television series.
As the popular phrase says, rain dogs are those who, on any given walk, on any Tuesday, leave the house of their masters and bad luck or destiny crosses them with a great storm far from their house.
Because of the rain, dogs lose the trail that would take them back to their house, and thus they become vagabond dogs overnight.
Nothing better in these times, that an idol being a vagabond dog

Cervantes is talking about Idols and does not want to leave the community out, so this week we open again the "Cervantes Related" section in order for everyone to make their publications in this newsletter.
An idol is what gives us confidence and security. For example, everything the The Blockchain causes us. This technology was created with the aim of establishing a registry of all transactions and activities carried out within this medium without the need of a central organization.
Money and Social Networks are synonymous with idolatry, and Steemit combines both. Are we facing the next step in the evolution of digital idolatry?
In recent weeks there have been constant disappearances of Mayan idols displayed in different museums around the world. Experts say that both in the Popol Vuh, and in innumerable stelae present in several Mayan cities, the disappearance of idols is spoken of as the definitive sign of the return of creators to Earth.
The eleven Nobel prizes that Spanish Literature has surely vindicate the importance of this language for the world. Nor is it a secret that the language of Cervantes is one of the most complex to learn and dominate for foreigners, even for their children scattered mainly in Spain and Latin America, children who in due time have expressed respect and admiration for that language, taking it to a place that if it is not heaven, it looks like it.
You have to be very careful and differentiate between a tribute and plagiarism. If that person or group has really influenced your life, respect their work.
There is a right to criticism, but after having successfully done what is criticized.
