Damn, this is far more serious than your typical video.
I agree with you and I even found myself defending Alex Jones in a post recently which is something I never thought I would ever be doing but this wave of censorship is bad. People fall back on the "privet company" argument but in doing so they are embracing the idea of the corporate media controlling the tap from which most information flows and that is fucking scary.
Not that my thoughts matter but I would love to see you, Paul, and Scotty post all of your content here. My vote is only worth like .01 but it's yours whenever you post. Plus, this site really needs some more consistent, experienced, and notable content creators and I think you guys can certainly fill that niche very well.
Well, they may delete legal content, but that would make them a publisher, not a plattform... And that would make them responsible for everything anyone posts. You post defamation on youtube? Well, you just sent it to youtube, THEY published it. You upload childporn? Well, you are in posession, but they are spreading it. Thats the situation they accept if they act as publisher rather than as plattform. And it doesnt matter if they delete it within seconds, if they ever publish illegal content, they are responsible according to US law.
I don't think that anyone is arguing that diddlers should be able to post their diddling videos.
The thing is, by accepting the narrow and pedantic view of free speech and defaulting to the "well, it is their site so its not illegal for them to censor" argument people are handing their ability to freely express themselves to compines who do, in fact, have a political agenda that they are activly pushing. To me, that seems like trading government control for corporate control and that is not a good look.
Of course nobody (well, barely anybody anyways, im sure there is SOMEONE) is arguing that. But if someone happens to upload something of that nature to youtube and they publish it - doesnt matter if they delete it 3 seconds later - youtube is the one responsible if they assume the role of a publisher which they do if they editorialise i.e. delete content which isnt clearly illegal. That is according to US law anyways. And since they do business in the US......
Haha well there is always a handful of wackjobs but no one that anyone takes seriously would be more accurate, I suppose.
However, this does not justify the censorship of political speech which is the actual issue here. They will try to point to things like that as their shield but this is really about silencing anyone who does not fit into google et al's vision for the future. We have seen that vision and it is not a good one. It protects people like this racist NY times author while harmless neckbeards like TJ are censored. It presents the estabmishment's view and hides others so that people cannot form an accurate picture of reality. It creates racial and social division that keeps the population too weak to stand against the opressive systems of control that we are all subject to. The list could go on but you know what I am getting at. If you are a regular person who isn't super rich or extremely well connected these compinies are not your friend and I don't like putting my trust in people who are not my friends.
You misunderstood what i was saying. See, internet plattforms are immune from being prosecuted for user created content - just so long as they act as plattform. If, however, they editorialise,if they delete content which is not illegal or violates crystal clearly formulated and strictly enforced (and with the mass of content they get, they are unable to strictly enforce anything) TOS, they are legaly to be considered publishers. Similar to me writing to a newspaper editor, in publishing what i send them, it is their speech then, they become responsible for every illegal video and illegal comment posted on their site according to US law.

I reread your first comment and I see what you are gitting at now. That may be a fruitful way to press the issue legally.
The thing that disturbes me is the willingness to accept this corporate censorship among the population. I expect these compinies to try to fuck us but right now there are a ton of people who are fucking themselves for the sake of hurting individuals that they have disagreements with.

Listening to your take down is such a breath of fresh air. The comment that we are the ones who made them big enough for them to ve able to sell us out is really powerful. It is why I believe in Steem long term as the users who puts in the effort to make ot gets to own it.
Truth. I think it is also worth pointing out that it is much easier to work your way here than anywhere else. Someone can start on YouTube, grind for years, and make less than a small but healthy account here makes in a few weeks.

Will you also make a video comparing alternative social media platforms just like with the comparison of DTube and Youtube?
Dtube is great for stuff thatd otherwise be censored, seen as it will definatly stay up short of physical intervention by law enforcement - you need to host it yourself though. I tried that for a while, worked great and longterm no problem. But that requires you are somewhat techsavy and set your own IPFS node up. Otherwise, dlive seems like the best option for videos. And steem connects all plattforms built around steem and you can build plattforms around steem yourself with relative ease. Steem isnt really a plattform but a great meta-tool in that sense. Steemit is one access point to content posted on steem. The great thing about steem, you can use any of the tools and plattforms built around steem and your followers will see your posts.
Gab.ai is being censored now,mandated by the hosting company. Impossible to happen to steem.
Btw, gab is now also going to censor or be taken down. I told people its not a save space for free speech.
Steem on the other hand, as a blockchain, cant be censored.
All governments on the planet colluding to shut it down wont work without stifling the entirerity of the internet .

It is funny how the service providers are allowed to dictate the rules of conduct to the consumers and ban them for ideological reasons, when in the "real world", any service provider who would dare to police it's customers in the same manner would be laughed out of the room and into the court.

DTube kind of sucks in terms of quality and loading times, but honestly, with the strong possibility that YouTube could ban you for a silly reason, this seems like the best place to go.
