A Brief History on CBD (Cannabidiol)
Cannabidiol (CBD - Does NOT get you high) is the second most widely known cannabinoid found in Cannabis, next to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC - Psychoactive - Does get you high).
CBD has been proven to have a plethora of health benefits and we are still uncovering some of the amazing qualities it offers.
I highly recommend http://Canna-Body.com which is a great topical rub with CBD to help reduce pain and begin healing
So, is CBD a recent discovery? What is its history? Let's dive a little bit further into CBD's past.
Definitely Not Modern
Cannabis Sativa (source plant for CBD), can actually be associated with the birth of agriculture and may be one of the first agricultural crops planted by early man. Cultivation and use of Cannabis Sativa has been identified at an ancient village site, which is now modern day Taiwan, dating back over 10,000 years ago. In 1977, Carl Sagan proposed that marijuana may have been the world's first agricultural crop, leading to the development of civilization itself.
From that time, Cannabis seeds and oil evolved into food, textiles, and eventually medicine. 2,737 BCE is the first recorded use of cannabis as a medicine by Emperor Shen Neng of China.
Modern Day
During the North American colonization, hemp (low THC) was widely used for clothing, ropes, and other practical purposes. Around the late 1700s, hemp seeds and roots began being used to treat various health problems again.
Fast forward to the 1900s where cannabis has undergone vast scrutiny, regulation, and control throughout the years. It hasn't been until fairly recently that medical journals began listing the medical uses of cannabis and its many wonders, setting the stage for the revolution that is currently underway.
Currently, medical marijuana has been legalized for medicinal purposes in 23 U.S. states. A recent study found that over 90 percent of medical marijuana users in California said it helps them alleviate and treat a serious medical condition.
The Future
As the value of cannabis and CBD becomes more widely-known, the future looks bright for the industry. We are currently writing another chapter in the history books for cannabis and its recent proliferation has the potential to help many, many more people.
