I got a kitten today!

in #cats8 years ago

This is Magnus Von Crump, a three-and-a-half month old mixed breed kitten.

I was aware of Magnus' existence for approximately fourteen hours before adopting him, and I have yet to regret my decision! Granted, he's only been at my house for two hours... but he's super cute and I love him.

As far as I can tell, his hobbies include eating treats, eating paper scraps, eating hair tufts, staring at you like he's never seen a human before, and eating cardboard.

There are two other pets in the house right now: Eloise, a tubby six-year-old cat; and Stella, an obese five-year-old Chihuahua mix. Oddly enough, when Eloise first saw Magnus, she hissed and growled while he simply stared and tried to move closer to her. When Magnus first saw Stella, HE hissed and growled while she stared and tried to move closer to him. And ate the treat I was giving to him.

I don't like Stella very much.

Anyways, I'm really excited to have him for mainly two reasons. The first and simplest reason is that he's an adorable kitten. The second is that I moved to Arizona from Washington in early May, because my parents wanted to attend a really good church in the area. Prior to moving, we had six cats(Freya, Onyx, Eloise, Samson, Anferny, and Katie, in the order we got them) and one dog(Stella).

However, the move was very short-notice. My parents made the decision in late February that we were going, and the main focus was on selling the house. Finding an actual house to move to in Arizona didn't come until April, and since we didn't have time to buy a house before the sale closed and we got the money to buy a house with, we had to find a rental. Exactly zero affordable places allowed you to have seven pets.

The first one to leave was Onyx. He was about eight years old, suffered from hypothyroidism and seemed to have something new wrong with him every five days. We decided to have him put down; we couldn't afford to keep him comfortable, and we wouldn't risk giving him to a neglectful owner.

A little later, we arranged homes for Samson, Anferny, and Katie with people at the church we were going to, so we unloaded them all in one day. That left Eloise, Freya and Stella.

We managed to find a place that would allow one dog and one cat(the place we're in right now), but that was it.

We've had Freya since she was a very tiny kitten: when she was about four weeks old, she got stuck between two fence posts and was abandoned by her mother. It took my dad a while to warm up to her, but eventually he fell in love and she became his favorite cat. So, obviously, he didn't really want to give her up, but he didn't want me to give Eloise away, either.

Since he was pretty good friends with the members of our new church on Facebook and had met them several times, he decided to ask one of the couples if they'd take in Freya until we moved into a new house. They said yes.

So, before I got Magnus, we had one cat and one dog living with us, plus a cat someone else was taking care of. Now, we have two cats and a dog with us, plus a cat who we're getting back very, very soon(before the end of July, in fact: my parents are going to officially buy a house on Thursday, this week). Which means in ten days, I'll have three cats--halfway back to normal-ish.

If you're wondering where I got the name "Magnus Von Crump", it was me making a mistake: a main antagonist in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is called Lord Crump, and one of his weapons was a robotic suit called the Magnus Von Grapple. I remembered the Magnus Von, and I remembered the Crump, but I forgot what belonged to what, plus a couple of words. But I like Crump better than Grapple, so he's Magnus Von Crump. His name is an everlasting testimony to my stupidity.
