The Cathedral of St. Vitus is a prominent object at the Prague Castle and i.s the largest church in the Czech Republic. King John of Bohemia was the emperor that started this construction in 1344. The first master builder was a Frenchman Matthias of Arras. The construction wasn't even finished in 15th century when Renaissance-Gothic architect Benedict Ried brought some Renaissance and Baroque elements into the Gothic building. The lack of the funds was the major issue why the construction of this cathedral took a few centuries. Even at the beginning of the 20th century Czech Art Nouveau painter Alfons Mucha decorated the new windows in the north part of nave.

Why don't you @melbourneswest come to Prague then? I have some dear friends from Melbourne living in Prague already, but why not to make some more friends from down under? You are welcome here...
