What I learned from the Bitch Coin, Shot Work Permit and Unicorn costumes' success in Brazilian carnival this year

in #carnival7 years ago (edited)

Hi steemians! I know It is a little bit late to talk about the carnival but the amazing success of the bitchcoin, shot and torn job contract and unicorn costumes this year here in Brazil has been making me think. The shot work permit costume was shown in the Tuiuti's Paradise samba school parade, beside chained slaves and vampire president costumes, which surprised the public in Sambadrome and the audience on TV and making them win the prize of second better parade in Rio's official carnival.

Maybe for the first time many Brazilians carnival fans played with this costume inspired in the subject of the moment - Bitcoin - that is revolutionizing the economy and bringing other cryprocurrencies and blockchain technology into the spotlight. I already posted about that in Bitch Coin costumes in Rio de Janeiro's Carnival, Katy Perry's crypto nails and #BlocoChain in Steem blockchain. Come to Brazil! with some girls in Rio's carnival warm-up but after searching on Instagram I found pictures from a lot of locations in Brazil.

These people played in "bloquinhos" (street block parties), kind of a decentralized autonomous carnival (this year we also had Bloco Chain in the cities of São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Florianópolis, where carrying some hand plates written with messages like: "I am valued", "Invest in me that I worth It", "Invest here", etc, some of that got sponsored from the Bit.one app as you can see. Wearing Bitchcoin costumes and joke phrases they danced and showed in the streets the new reality of cryptocurrency as income, savings, exchange instrument, fun and humor.

In other side, in the official carnival parade aired on national tv, the newcomer samba school Tuiuti's Paradise, surprised many of us showing their members wearing constumes representing job contracts (in Brazil they are regulated and standardized in a paper ledger or work permit called "Carteira de Trabalho") after being shot and injured. Our current president, who approved changes in the labor law, was put in charge after the impeachment of the former president, the main protests against her was lead by one businessmen organization using the yellow duck as a symbol (duck means fool in Brazil). Now the country has more people employed in the informal economy and many believe that the new legislation is weaker when protecting the workers. So I can imagine that the killed job contract costume represents a past, when a conventional industrial model existed, now being replaced by the speeches defending the self-employment and boss-less entrepeneurship.

In this new scenario, for me both costumes represent two sides of the same coin. The shot "Carteira de Trabalho" remember the workers that a conventional and safe job is being replaced by the so called sharing economy model, where the income depends on the efficiency and service demand available by p2p marketplace apps.

And the Bitcoin emerge from this economy reality. Behind the joke of Bitch Coin impersonations there are a lure of fascination, seduction, income, law disobedience and permissiveness that the crypto brings to our lives.

Not to mention that this only happens in Brazil, I found the picture above showing a carnival block parade in Croatia. Considering the Brazilian carnival style they appear not to be so enthusiasts but could be just the weather :-)

I liked to see that in the official carnival parade, supported by the big media companies and the government, the rebel act of Tuiuti's Paradise samba school was awarded by counterparts rescuing the insolent and daring spirit of the true root carnival. I was also surprised with the timing of a military intervention in Rio just after the carnival. It enhanced the sense of conflict and punishment, putting everything in a context of disproportional use of force, as I heard, a practice used by control and submission governments.

The Unicorn Costumes

But If you went out to see the streets in Brazil during carnival you would notice that the most used costume was the Unicorn's above all. The mythological animal is also the symbol of companies with a market value above U $ 1 billion, the term is being used for cryptocoins that reach the same value. The creator of Ethereum has adopted the fashion, as these @basiccrypto and @pamtivek. posts showed. Here in Brazil the unicorn is a huge success among the children too, like Vitalik they do not wait for the carnival to go out wearing rainbows with a little corn on the head. To me, seeing that the unicorn became an idol, a conscious or not admiration of the big digital enterprises that transformed the world, reveals much of the future the people expect.

See you in the next carnival, come to Brazil!
Thank you very much and good luck again!
