Why Carbohydrates are Fuel for Living Machines?

in #carbohydrates7 years ago (edited)

Carbohydrates are compounds that contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, joined together by energy-containing bonds. The main two types of carbohydrates are complex and simple. The complex carbohydrates are classified as polysaccharides. Simple carbohydrates are classified as either monosaccharaides or disaccharides.

In the digestive area, carbohydrates are broken down into glucose. The glucose provides energy for the body’s cells and tissues. Without carbohydrates there is no energy left for our body to work, which could be deadly. When the intake of carbohydrates is low, there is not enough glucose production, which then causes the body to use its protein as a source for energy. This ultimately prevents the body’s protein from performing its most important functions which include: maintaining the body’s immune system.
