Volkswagen cooks hybrid Tiguan

The crossover will receive an aggregate of about 220 hp.
Volkswagen has begun winter testing on a hybrid plug-in version of its Tiguan crossover. Photos of the test prototype of the car were published by Autoevolution.

In 2015, the German manufacturer showed the conceptual Tiguan GTE, which received a hybrid unit powered by the power grid. It is precisely the expectation that it will be the basis of the serial model.

This is reflected in the design prototype test, which has the same front bumper with C-shaped LED lights and air intakes. However, the captured machine has a greater wheelbase than the concept, so it approaches the European Tiguan Allspace and the Chinese Tiguan L.

In addition, the car has no GTE label on the radiator grille and has been replaced by PHEV. This is likely to be the serial version of the hybrid, whose technical characteristics are still kept secret.

According to the information, the power unit of the hybrid Tiguan will rely on a combination of a 1.4-liter gasoline engine TSI and an electric motor. The total power will be within 220 hp, with only the current crossover going to 50 km.

It is expected that the production car will be officially presented at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Premiere's place is not chosen by accident, as the Tiguan hybrid will primarily target the Chinese market.
