The truth about cannabis

in #cannabis6 years ago

The fact that cannabis is illegal is ridiculous on two levels. For one, it’s ridiculous because it is legislating a policy that does not follow the principle of ‘live and let live’. The idea is that because something is dangerous, it is okay for government to ban its use. If we use that premise consistently, then fast food, cigarettes and alcohol would also need to be prohibited. The other reason it’s ridiculous is because cannabis is not actually dangerous, and there are no legitimate examples where cannabis causes harm. Although cannabis is used mostly as a recreational drug, it has many health and medicinal benefits. The fibrous form of cannabis, commonly known as hemp, also has many beneficial uses, yet because of the paper industry, the hemp industry is drastically underdeveloped.
There has been a propaganda campaign against cannabis ever since the release of the 1936 movie ‘Reefer Madness’. DrugfreeworldDOTorg offers many false claims against cannabis, but the studies they refer to do not show causation. For example, if someone smokes both pot and cigarettes, any subsequent health problems cannot be attributed to specifically just one of them. An experiment must be designed such that either one variable or the other is isolated in order to show causation. Even some politicians have been outspoken against cannabis, claiming that it’s dangerous when there is no evidence of this being the case. This, taken together with corporate news reports trying to damage the plant’s reputation, makes this appear to be a directed campaign against cannabis. A strategic, concerted effort to suppress its use.
Could it be that the reason cannabis remains largely unexplored and prohibited is because of its beneficial properties? Could that be so? But that seems illogical – why would a beneficial medicinal plant be prohibited if it was basically harmless, even when smoked?
Intuitively, it seems false that cannabis could be considered both prohibited and beneficial at the same time. More logical is that it would be either prohibited and dangerous, or, completely legal and healthy.
The truth about cannabis is that it is indeed a beneficial medicinal plant that has no business being illegal. With so many reports on its effectiveness, it would be absurd to dismiss or ignore the testimonials regarding the healing benefits of cannabis, also known as marijuana.
The reason why cannabis is illegal, is because of corporate interests, not health concerns. It’s all about markets, and access to those markets.
