Pythagoras pharmacy sells marijuana in a neighborhood stricken by hard drugs
The legalization of marijuana has placed the modest pharmacy Pitágoras, from the neighborhood Malvín North, in a prominent place on the map of Montevideo. The reason is simple: it is one of the few four pharmacies that have agreed to sell legal marijuana cultivated on land controlled by the Uruguayan state. Away from the chains that dominate the market, located in strategic areas, with huge showcases exhibiting international brands, the pharmacy Pitágoras has small dimensions, but is modern and well supplied. These days its owner, Esteban Riveira, has more press than a rock star.
Like the rest of the Montevidean pharmacies, marijuana envelopes flew on Wednesday, the first day of its sale. Each establishment can have up to two kilos of the substance in reserve, the equivalent of 400 envelopes. At noon there was nothing left at the Pythagoras pharmacy.
