Detroit Cannabis Seminar

Hi Everyone! Sorry it has been a bit since my last post. December has flown by and I cannot wait to see what this next year brings. I thought I would tell you about a seminar I went to recently. It was put on by a group of lawyers who have been representing cannabis companies throughout the medical and recreational legalization process. I know some of you are thinking what a joke they just want your money! While it is true they want our money, this was a good seminar. They have watched this industry develop and a few of the speakers where on the ground in CO when they went legal. My grower and processing friends knew a few of the speakers personally and it was great to be able to put a face to a name.

So it started about 2 hours from home in Detroit, and that meant I was on the road by 6 am. Had to make sure I got parked and settled around 8:30. The seminar was held at the Cobo center and I arrived on the roof top parking with the sun up in the sky.
There were sponsor of the event set up with booths on the way in and free breakfast! Who doesn’t love free muffins?

Got to meet one of Denver’s cannabis transportation pioneers and personal friend of proc and grower. He was a pretty cool guy.

Well everything got started and there was a good amount of information from writing a business plan to getting involved in the initiative to legalize recreational use. A representative from Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol shared their progress for getting recreational on the ballot in 2018 here in Michigan.

Most of the speakers were down to earth and some of them kinda funny.

After the 8 hour seminar the presenters stuck around and chatted with people. I met one of the speakers who helped write Colorado’s amendment 64 and has been a cannabis activist and defender since he left law school. I also met a market researcher who was great and was able to get his contact information. He agreed to point me in the right direction for getting laboratory data for my business plan which is not an easy task.

All in all it was a good time with good people.
