Camping in Mexico, Sonora State

This post is for those that want to expand their adventures this year. We've spent hundreds of days camping in the last 5 years. But the USA is less than half of America. So let's go further.

This is Playa Huatabampito in Sonora Mexico (26.69624 -109.60719). Beautiful warm beaches in near peaceful fishing towns. Speaking of fishing towns, Yavaro is about 10 minutes from this spot and as you come into town there a little restaurant on the right with the most AMAZING shrimp platter you have ever had for about 5 bucks.

This is with our 4x4 converted van an a Tepui RTT. We also tow a trailer sometimes.

We've been in Mexico about 8 months now and traveled in about 10 States. For those smart enough to get past US propaganda you find an amazing country with friendly people and loads of freedom. While in the USA there's always a park ranger to harass you. In Mexico you just do your thing and even police are far more respectful and there are far more rules. If you find an empty place, you can probably camp there. If you're uncertain about safety find a campground or use ioverlander for suggestions.

But the violence? Most of what you see about Mexico is propaganda meant to keep you in fear. Don't join a cartel and you're not likely to have trouble. In fact Gringos are LESS likely to be murdered in Mexico than the USA. Use your head just like you would boondocking it of the US.

There's beach access here at: 26.69624 -109.60719. We got stuck trying to camp on the landward side of these dunes and some locals helped us out. Super nice people for the 4x4 club. They suggested camping on the sea side and interior side has scorpions.

If you want a little more security about 200 yards up the beach is the Hotel Miarador Campground. That's where this photo was taken. Though we also boon-docked on the beach with no problems. A new country with a new culture and a different language takes some getting used to. But what doe snot take long is realizing what a warm and freedom filled county it is.

Amazing post. I would love to do this someday!

Cool! We stayed there in early February on our way down the Pacific Coast. Are you guys doing some traveling in Mexico now?

Right not we're working on getting a different house. But I'm gearing up for some road tripping.

If your road trip takes you our way, we'd still love to do a collab!

Sounds good. Ditto. You guys would love doing videos in these towns here.
