Upvote by Venezuela

in #campaign8 years ago (edited)

Sunday, august 7th. I share this writing with you, guys of steemit, lines I catalog as a sign of hope. We have nothing special on my house, nothing more special than our food which may last until Monday and we would have to work harder to get more money to buy anything with the highest prices we’ve ever seen, because we (my wife and I) earn almost $80 per month. My neighbors can eat one or two times per day and it hurts to see them losing weight, so I decided to help them through my vocation and with Steemit’s help so I can get money with all my posts or to touch anyone’s heart so he or she could help me with an UpVote or with medicines that surely will be very helpful for us. I started a campaign called “An UpVote for Venezuela”, hoping that I can buy supplies (food, medicines or anything) in Colombia, and to share it with my community and with the people in need. I also hope to publish their stories through this blog with their respective pictures to let everyone know they’ve been helped for people who still have a heart in their chest. I will make it possible with your help.

Give me an UpVote for Venezuela

Give us a sign of HOPE.

Thanks you for reading these lines and thanks for your support…

Thank you so much, Steemit!

I think I might have some bad news about this post. I didn't want to have to do this, but I feel this information is important so people can decide for themselves whether to upvote or perhaps flag this post.

@edbriv sent me this post on the Steemit.chat and I was eager to read it, to possibly lend some support to a Venezuelan in trouble. However, reading the article, it sounded very familiar. After some digging, I found this very similar article: http://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-venezuela-diary/ with a by-line of Fabiola Zerpa, written in the first person, by a female - presumably Sra. Zerpa herself.

I told @edbriv that I had read the story elsewhere, and asked if he had published it on another site. He said that he had sent it to a teacher to publish it in "La Opinión" in Colombia. It had to be published by proxy, according to @edbriv, as he didn't have a licence to work or receive income in that country. However, I couldn't find such an article on "La Opinión", and @edbriv stopped replying to my messages when I asked him for a link.

Unfortunately, with the weight of this information, I feel the only thing I can do is to flag this article and encourage others to do the same, unless and until @edbriv can provide some proof of his claim, that this is his work.

@edbriv if you have plagiarised, and you are indeed from Venezuela, I encourage you to, in the future, write your own personal story, and show us what you're really going through. People here are more than willing to support you if you just be honest.

I wonder if there actually is a way to leverage steemit to benefit Venezuelans though...

Well, I've been trying to get one of my Venezuelan friends to sign up. Maybe this post can inspire her in a backwards sort of way.

After seeing the article @churdtzu referenced... sadly I will have to flag this post. The title wasn't even changed! and even though this is a real situation happening in Venezuela , going about it by stealing content is just wrong. If you truly are in need of help, write a story about your life and situation.

I had a similar situation with him list week. He claims to be a journalist who, for some reason, has to work through 3rd parties to publish. This is very suspicions. The situation in Venezuela is pretty dire, and I wanted to do what I could to help given his indication of his intent to use the funds for charity. I offered to assist with a more effective translation of an earlier post. In doing so, I found it was a copy of an article in El Universal. see links:

http://www.eluniversal.com/noticias/opinion/hambre-hambruna_429849https://steemit.com/campaign/@edbriv/the-heartbreaking-story-of-a-child-in-venezuela

Now, it could be argued (giving him the benefit of the doubt) that he is providing a translation service to the community however, as I told him, he needs to make it very clear that it is such and include credit to the newspaper/writer. Apparently it was not important to him, because here we go again! The really sad part is that this is happening after he has received a reprieve by @Dantheman of a poor reputation score due to simular questionable actions.
My heart goes out to the people in Venezuela and would like to do something to help, but clearly given the reputation here, this is not the channel to do so.

Great job catching this one

Thanks Andrew. It's funny, because I don't even remember where I heard the story from the Bloomberg article. I remember someone reading it out on a podcast, but I have no idea which one. At least my early-onset Alzheimers isn't too advanced

My dear brother as I have told you in private chat that note is mine I have the original manuscript and translation, never and never had seen the note you sent ME http://www.bloomberg.com and mention all community of #Steemit I I am a journalist in my country and here with my profession apart from being very dangerous is very bad paid by that same I dedicate myself to sell what you write to is colleagues this note it wrote me and I sold to Fabiola Zerpa ena colleague who I have the number telephone and e-mail for anyone who wants to contact and ask for the press release regret that the malicious intent of a group such as it @churdtzu @patrice @anyx @team-leibniz and others let them lead by a bad comment to leave without illusion and without food to my community had any hope in you a shame that you are not those who go to sleep hungry every day and rise without where to buy a bite anyway thanks

Incredible, thank you @churdtzu. I'm venezuelan and no doubt this guy is just looking for easy money at the expense of the good will of other people. Like we say in Venezuela "yo conozco mi ganado" (I know my cattle) I mean, I see this kind of BS every day so I know perfectly how it is.

@edbriv This is not the way to exit the crisis.

PD: @edbriv I see you've edited your post, but I think your intentions were pretty obvious, sorry.

Yes, it's unfortunate. Well, he claimed he can give me a phone number and email to contact Fabiola Zerpa. He still hasn't shown me where his work was published on La Opinión. I get the funny feeling I'll never see any of these things. Good luck @toxichan. I'll check out some of your posts in the next few days.

good work @churdtzu and @anyx - thanks for maintaining the culture here on Steemit.
