The ideal low-carb side dish for a keto diet is this fried cabbage with bacon! This one-pan side dish will become your new favorite because it only has 3.9 net carbohydrates per serving!

Finding side dishes that were keto-friendly was a challenge for me when I switched to a low-carb diet. At first glance, it seemed like there were less options for classic sides like baked potatoes, fries, chips, pasta salads, and even some vegetable-based sides.

What then remains? Just salad? That is what I initially believed as well. However, there are a ton more low-carb side dishes available!

This quick and simple keto side dish is a naturally low carb Southern fried cabbage with bacon. With this recipe, you don't need any difficult-to-find ingredients; all you need are a few really basic ones to create the ideal keto comfort food!

Ingredients for Fried Cabbage with Bacon

One of my favorite keto sides is pan-fried cabbage because it only needs a few ingredients. The ingredients for the bacon and onion-topped fried cabbage are as follows:

-Cabbage
-Onion
-Bacon
-Salt
-Pepper
-Paprika
-Bacon

What Kind of Cabbage Should I Use?

For this recipe, I used a head of green cabbage. Purple cabbage should not be used because it has a slightly different flavor and texture.

What Kind of Bacon Should I Use?

You may use any type of bacon! I used traditional pork bacon, but you can substitute your preferred brand.

How to Make Fried Cabbage with Bacon

Here is a description of how to make this straightforward keto side dish recipe:

1.The bacon should be cooked until crisp in a large skillet that has been heated to medium heat.

  1. With a slotted spoon, take the crisp bacon from the skillet and set it on a plate covered with paper towels.
  2. All but 1 tablespoon of the bacon grease should be drained off and saved for later.
  3. In the bacon fat, add the chopped onion and cook until caramelized.
  4. Add the cabbage, salt, pepper, and paprika to the skillet after adding 1 tablespoon of the bacon oil back in.
  5. The cabbage should be cooked until it has decreased and reached the desired tenderness.
  6. Add the bacon, then serve right away.

Is Fried Cabbage Keto-Friendly?

Yes! My keto diet includes cabbage frequently. It has a naturally low carbohydrate content and is quite versatile.

This recipe for keto fried cabbage yields four servings, or around 3/4 cup each. The serving size will be lower, though, if you prefer your cabbage to be extremely tender and simmer it until it significantly decreases.

This recipe has 3.9 net carbohydrates and 14 grams of fat per serving.
