Why is the Vietnamese passport green on the outside?
Have you ever felt this way when you saw your passport issued to go on a fun and pleasant trip abroad?
Each country has a different color of passport
They say there are other reasons why they chose that color.
I have looked at the reasons why some countries chose the representative colors of their passports.
Red passport
Communist country / Socialist country
Now, it is said that the communist countries, the present or the past socialist countries such as China, Russia, Serbia, chose red to represent political identity.
Surprisingly, however, North Korea is using the passport, which is not red but blue.
Vietnam is also using green passports, not red.
Red passport
Andes Nation / EU Member States / Solidarity
Countries in the Andes, such as Peru and Colombia, and members of the EU unified the colors of their passports to strengthen their alliance.
Red passport
The meaning of EU hanker
It is said that countries wanting to join the EU, Turkey and Macedonia, chose the same red color as they did as a yearning to be an EU members.
Red passport
The country that reflects the color of the national flag
Switzerland and Japan are said to have chosen red to emphasize the national flag colors.
Blue passport
Strengthened Latin American and Caribbean States / solidarity
Four Latin American countries, Brazil, Argentina and others formed the Mercosutol, a tariff alliance, unify the colors of their passports in blue.
Blue passport
U.S. / Flag color reflection
The United States originally used green passports like Vietnam, but it changed to blue in 1976 to match the color of the American flag.
Green passport
Except Iraq and Yemen, Muslim countries chose the green as their passport color, which was the most favorite color of Muslim Muhammad.
Green passport
Strengthening the Alliance of West African Nations
Namibia, Nigeria, and other Western African countries formed the " ECOWAS " in 1975, unify the passports color in green to strengthen solidarity.
Black Passport
African countries / Highlight geography
Many African countries such as Congo and Angola use black passports as if they emphasized the geographical features of the black continent.
Black Passport
New Zealand / national symbol color
New Zealand has a black passport because it represents the country and is a color that people prefer very much.
What color is your passport?
It's really great information about passport colors. I was wondering reasons behind it as well. I have Turkish passport but we have few different colors for passports. Red one is ordinary passport which they give to people mostly. But if a person worked for state as officer or teacher etc. they will get green passport and it's visa free to lots of countries, especially Europe is visa free for them (not counting Brexit). We have gray passport as well, it's service passport. I have green one, but soon I will get red one instead. My parents worked for state and their family has a right to get green passport until 25 years old. That's how it works in here.
I want to share this educative and interesting post on my next curation post if you give me permission. You can find details on my post. I shared my first curation post for only Vietnamese community. I want to add this one to my next post. If you want to get featured please let me know today, because I will share it at Friday night in Vietnamese time. Keep posting great posts!
Wow! Thanks for sharing. I did not know that. I thought that colors may be changed with time. And it is a random choice of colors.
I did not know that either until I faced some issues connected to my Russian passport. You know, it is still quite complicated to leave the USA due to the Covid. I am currently here but I needed to go home to renew my passport. But I could not catch the tickets on a plane. It was a difficult time for me. Then I found an article about the company https://www.russia-travel.com/passport/ that helps to renew russian passport being abroad. Honestly, I did not expect that process to be so easy. But I got a new red passport in a short period.
Wow, this is really very useful information. I have long wanted to know what the colors of the passport stand for. In fact, it is very interesting and quite logical, why countries have chosen such colors. Still, I would add yellow, as I think it is a very bright and memorable color. Recently, my husband and I were faced with the problem of forged documents. A man with a fake passport wanted to check into our hotel. We didn't even distinguish it from the real one, but on intuition I decided to scan it in the https://www.idanalyzer.com/products/prime-id-scanner.html . The program, of course, quickly declassified the stranger, and we had to call the police.
