RE: Road accidents and careless driving…

—Don’t talk with drivers while driving

I disagree with that one. Unfortunately I don't have the references at hand, but I believe research has been done proving that while a telephone conversation (even with hands-free) really can distract the driver, a conversation by a fellow passenger is usually not that bad. The reason is that the fellow passenger will usually also be reading the traffic situation, will understand when the driver needs to concentrate on the driving, will understand that the driver cannot answer complicated questions while he's concentrating on the driving. The passenger may also help, a conversation may keep the driver awake during the tedious long distances, and four eyes are better than two - the passenger may help to alert the driver if he has overseen something, and may aid the driver i.e. to switch the radio or do other non-driving tasks that the driver may want to try to do while driving.

It’s a complex situation and the answer could go both ways. I do agree with you that talking with fellow passengers the driver will not feel sleepy. But if the driver lost himself in imagination during talking, that could create problems. However, nicely said below-

four eyes are better than two
