"Treasures" Gold Bars Found in Trash South Korean Airports
Incheon - Tub collapsed on a collapsed durian, a janitor in South Korea found 7 gold bars in a trash can.
According to The Korea Times, the man found seven gold bars worth US $ 330,000 (IDR 4.6 billion equivalent) while emptying the trash at Incheon International Airport on 26 April 2018. Similarly, as quoted from the BBC (2/5/2018).
The gold bars, each weighing 1 kg, were found to be wrapped in newspaper.
The cleaning officer immediately reported to the police on his findings.
For a while, the police suspect that gold bullion is a stolen product.
The perpetrator or a group of suspects throws him in a hurry for fear of being arrested.
To date, there has been no evidence that gold at South Korea's Incheon Airport is linked to criminal activity.
The Janitor Is Not Legitimate To Be The Owner
Currently, the janitor who found the gold bullion is not yet valid to be the owner of the unexpected treasure. The police still keep it for a while.
But, if no official owner claims the item until the time specified by law, then, the janitor is entitled to receive a gratuity from the discovery of gold bars.
According to the law in force in South Korea, the maximum time limit for owners to claim the lost item is six months. Through it, the janitor will be able to share ownership.
Called a portion because, by law, the inventor of a non-owner's lost item will only be able to legally claim between 5 and 20 percent of the total price of the goods - in that case, in accordance with the price or the latest gold exchange rate.
So, the janitor can only claim the gold bullion is equivalent to US $ 65,000 (equal to Rp 906 million) in accordance with the law. It was not explained whether the police or the government would secure the rest.
