Keep Doing Your Own Thing

Keep doing your own thing.

One thing I’ve learned over the past couple months, is to not try and win over your haters.

Sometimes criticism is necessary, if it allows you to grow and see things from a different perspective, but some people are there just to hate. You have to be able to distinguish one versus the other. Sometimes criticism comes from a place of jealousy and fear. Sometimes people say things because they don’t see the entire picture.

This applies to everything in life. You could ask someone for advice on a current relationship and their answer may not be what you accept. Understand that this could be because that is all they know. Sometimes this advice may need to be ignored. At the end of the day, only you know your relationship. You must trust your gut instincts. Do not give into fear, insecurities or pride.
You could have launched a company you thought was amazing and someone had told you that you could’ve added a little bit more spice to it and done a bit more. In this case, for me, I would take this as constructive. I would be able to reflect where I went wrong and where could I improve. No matter what the circumstances are. It is important to take it with a grain of salt and keep doing what you believe is the right thing.

When people doubt you and say you can’t do this or that. Don’t expect them to understand because they’ve never done it. Check your source. Some of us take advice from want-preneurs who have never successfully ran a company in their life, but yet we believe that the advice that they give is essential to our growth. Some of us take relationship advice from our single depressed friends thinking that it would help us fix our relationships. Don’t do this.

Keep doing you. Find the right mentors. Trust your instinct and keep pursuing your dreams.

Good advice, and a nice reminder when we begin to doubt our path.

Great advice. Something I needed to read at just the right time!

I have to the same realization too. By time i became able to distinguish between different attitudes toward me and sometimes it is not about me but about the party who is advising or critisizing. Thanks for sharing the idea.
