Brave's Development Schedule and Users Who Want to See Ads

Over the past several weeks, the Steem community has called a lot of things into question.

New ideas and new beliefs have been formed as a direct result to the let-downs of the Steemit, Inc. team. Some people have gotten quite upset at what happened with the way that Steemit, Inc. handled everything - false promises, "masking troubles" with promises of the future, lack of communication, etc. - I personally think that the Steem community realizing all of this now is a gift.

It's a gift in the form of a wake up call. Development of the core of Steem needs a major overhaul. It needs more minds and more organization than what Steemit, Inc. can deliver.

What Should Development Look Like?

All of this begs the question: what should development look like? --> how should we organize development? Who should develop what? What is a realistic and achievable roadmap?

All of these questions and more must be answered for the Steem blockchain. Relying on one organization to do it all is a bad strategy. It should be more so in the hands of the community. Especially because the Steem blockchain is so community-oriented.

I've been researching the Brave browser and the BAT crypto project a lot more in the past several days since I became a Brave Verified Creator.

The project is really exciting and I'm obsessed with how organized and on track it is.

Their development schedule is easy for the layman to follow (yes, even I can read it and understand what's going on) and they are sticking to it.. Releases are being dolled out and improvements are regular.

I have seen this with many Steem related projects as well - hyper organization and delivering great solutions on time - but this isn't something that we see when it comes to Steemit, Inc. doing core blockchain development.

I read a post recently that mentioned a few changes have been added to the MIRA github. I have yet to go looking for any of that. Let's hope that some progress is being made on that front.

Back to BAT and Brave... The development schedule can be seen here

As you can see, it's very easy to follow along with past developments as well as current and future developments as well.

Give Us More Ads!

One of the main things that I'm excited to see from the Brave browser is the integration of ads.

Sounds weird, right? Why would I and many others be interested in the integration of ads into our browser and my favorite and most used sites?

With Brave, creatives who own websites (like myself) will be able to integrate Brave ads and earn BAT in exchange for attention towards those ads on our sites/social platforms.

Users will also benefit by getting paid in BAT for interacting with ads and opting-in or opting-out of actually seeing the ads at all.

This way, you can see ads when you want to see them. You can see relevant ads and if you like what the ad displays and choose to interact with it, you will be rewarded for your attention.

Advertisers benefit as well from a more engaged and motivated audience.

As I've said before... win-win-win. The Brave platform will be a game-changer when this ad network is released. Instead of advertisers lining the pockets of Facebook who is abusing their users' attention, we can all be rewarded for our part in the larger game of it all.

I think something similar can definitely be implemented on the Steem blockchain. I also think that it should be implemented as soon as possible. There is no time to waste here.

The platforms can be rewarded from ads, the users can be rewarded and content creators can be rewarded as well. Ads on the Steem blockchain can be a great benefit to all. Just as ads on the Brave platform will be when they are released.

Steemit.com has already started rolling out some ads here and there. I'm very curious to know what the numbers look like on those.

I would love to hear from Steemit, Inc. about the performance of these ads and I would also love to see them develop some sort of program to redistribute a portion of the earnings back to the users and to the content creators who make it all possible.

p.s. I thought this was funny... It's a Reddit thread about people who can't wait to see ads on their Brave Browser.

Q&A

How do you think Steemit, Inc. could improve it's development communications to the Steem community? Do you think they could benefit from modeling after Brave?

What do you think of the ads on Steemit.com? - Should rewards be redistributed to users/bloggers?

You are beating a dead horse.

Steemit Inc hired a "Content Director" @andrarchy that does a horrible job at communications. I'm beginning to believe that his job title is nothing more than a fake title only to justify hiring a buddy.

@andrarchy's very first blog announcing his new position in Steemit Inc is titled "I'm Steemit's Content Director".

I took the opportunity to provide suggestions and ask questions about Steemit Inc's communications. What I got instead was @andrarchy muted me forever.

This was my response to @andrarchy for muting me

I just want to point out the irony of your statement.
As a content director responsible for ensuring "production of Content coming out of Steemit Inc", and yet your first official public interaction as content director is to make a statement to ignore the people that have concerns and suggestions about content coming out of Steemit Inc.

Steemit Inc has no leadership. CEO of Steemit Inc is just a self imposed title and means nothing. Further communications will only validate their inadequacy.

I’ve recently started using brave and I love it it’s as blockers are really making me enjoy using the internet on my laptop once again

Glad to see they are continuing to develop the project and build some sort of sustainable income stream for themselves

I think the idea behind an attention rewarding economy in Steem would be great and would say that it should extend further than just Steemit. I would embed it in the protocol somehow so that Steem tokens are burnt by those who purchase adds with fiat through at interface platform. Then the consumers of the adds get an ad curation reward for support and seeing the ads.

As a noob here I don't quite follow the argument vis a vis Steemit vs. Steem. Are you referring to Steem as the community of users or the blockchain and Steemit as the organization who maintains the platform? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'd like to understand the nature of the problems that you are finding. Obviously from replies others have similar sentiments and being new here I value the experience of those who have been around for a while.
As an aside, I was very interested in Brave and downloaded the browser a few months back looking to earn some BAT during downtime while watching ads. I couldn't figure out how to do it and came to the conclusion that it wasn't a feature yet. Everything I came across online led me to believe that feature was going to be implemented mid 2018 which wasn't the case afaik. My experience with the purported increase in speed of load times wasn't noticeable either versus Chrome. Not saying that there wasn't a difference just that I couldn't notice it. I'm still interested in it but my enthusiasm has waned as time has passed. Please feel free to set me straight on anything I've misconstrued here. Thanks!
