The term ‘keke-NAPEP’ is derived from a Yoruba word ‘keke’ meaning bicycle and ‘NAPEP’ meaning National Poverty Eradication Programme. The keke-NAPEP serves as a means of transportation for commercial purposes, since the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes is unsafe and illegal.
The introduction of keke-NAPEP has empowered most Nigerians. It creates a source of income for youths who are unemployed and uneducated. The rate of cultism and robbery has reduced a little since most people now have a source of livelihood. In Akwa-Ibom, Nigeria were I stay some time ago the government gave out a specified number of keke-NAPEPs free to the unemployed.
Using keke-NAPEP to work in a whole day you can get about 6,500 naira in a day and 195,000 in a month minus fuel cost, some bankers can’t even make up to that amount in 2 months.
We can therefore gladly say that keke-NAPEP has helped in the eradication of poverty in Nigeria. Now a man can afford to send his children to good schools and leave comfortably at home with just keke-NAPEP business.
In conclusion, Keke-NAPEP plays an intensive role in the eradication of poverty, youth empowerment and financial sustainability.
