Gratitude Day 4: Grateful for the acknowledgement received at school

in #busy7 years ago

Ok.... yesterday, I was voted the best teacher by the students. I am grateful about this because I wasn't even on the assembly ground when the whole show went down. I teach Mathematics in a government owned school, here in Nigeria. It is rare to see students talk well of their Mathematics teacher in public schools here. (the students most often naturally dislike the subject and the teacher in extension.)

I ought to have written about this yesterday, but I was too exhausted to type even an alphabet. Yesterday was all smiles for me as students and colleges relayed the good news to me.

I am grateful that the students acknowledged and appreciate my effort as a teacher. To be frank, teaching effectively in a government owned school in Nigeria could be too much of a task to ask from a teacher. Aside the poorly equipped and dilapidated structures, the ratio of students to a teacher is a below standard. This doesn't exclude the lackadaisical nature of some teachers at discharging their duties.

I am proud and grateful to be a nation builder. I am grateful for the opportunity to impact values and morals in the lives of young ones positively.
