How to make friends and influence people

Put out a post on the top 50 witnesses regarding their Bid-bot connections - Yeah, that'll work a treat........

This list was collated following requests from multiple sources.

Do I vote for Bid-bot owners as witness? Yes

Will I change my mind in the future as we head deeper into pay per view territory? Probably

So it seems you can pick from the top 50 and not hit a Bid-bot. Just.

Updated to just upmyvote, is this correct?

it is amazing and memorable for my friends in your buddies steemit ..

upmyvote got an 1,800 SP delegation from Minnowbooster market (today for the first time), but I assure you he doesn't own it. He delegates to a lot of people off the market.

ipromote isn't a bot , I own buildawhale and upmyvote

Good that you brought it here, because I wanted to add that furion delegates 600SP (edit: now it is up to 15000 SP) to oceanwhale.
It seemed weird to me, that a big name witness delegates such a small (for him) amount to a medium sized bidbot, so I thought he decided to treat it as an experiment, but your comment made me think that he made it through the minnowbooster or smartsteem market, which is still weird due to quantities I mentioned before and in itself, due to him trying to benefit from a market, and while seemingly not an active member as an author or curator, he does need it at least for his political connections influence.
I guess he needs the small amounts of cash more than a small additional amount of political influence.

BTW, how do you rank these delegation markets, do you know about more, and how do you rank them including the additional markets you know ?
minnowbooster, smartsteem, blocktrades, neoxian.
I suppose minnowbooster and smartsteem can not be considered as single markets since they intermediate, but you can still have some input on them in other aspects, or measure them based on some weighted average of prices divided by time, which is what I meant in prices.

Does a longer delegation tend to be more expensive relative to its duration, or cheaper?
I assume that given the 1 week rest period a delegation has once its cancelled, a longer delegation should be cheaper relative to its duration, but there may be more factors to it, like risk premiums, bother premium, etc.

Longer delegation is cheaper because with shorter delegation the 7-day cooldown hurts more.

This is equivalent to a part of what I wrote.
How do you rank the delegation markets and do you know about more?

I don't really rank them at all, that's why I didn't respond. I have only used MB and I only have a very tiny delegation from a market right now, everything I have done is individual.

As for more, there are no more public markets I know of, just private deals.

Nice info.

I have not understand all the post. What is the benefit by giving withness? Why i do that?

You can vote for 30 witnesses.

  • Click on the hamburger icon to the right of your icon at the very top right of any post.
    • Click on Vote for Witnesses
      • Vote for up to 30 witnesses.
  • Please note: you can also vote witnesses that do not show up on this page.
    • You might want to see @ura-soul's post about this situation
      • You vote for those not showing up on that page by entering their name at the bottom where it says
If you would like to vote for a witness outside of the top 50, enter the account name below to cast a vote.

The idea of the witnesses is they represent you to Steemit, Inc.

  • So try to pick witnesses that are doing a lot for the entire Steemit platform.
    • many have external websites that are very useful
    • They all must run a server that supports the blockchain.
      • They make money for doing this.
The higher they are on the list, the more money they can make.
So by voting for those doing a lot for the platform, you are helping them do even more for the platform...

Thanks for this explanation. I'm really new on Steemit. I didn't at all understand voting for witnesses. I think I get it now. So the witnesses who are good to the community deserve our votes, while the self-serving witnesses don't deserve votes? Question--It seems like minnowbooster is good for the community because it encourages new users to stick around. But what do I know? This post suggests it's a bot and that bots are bad. How do you feel about it?

So they can thank you :)

They keep the network alive, you should consider voting for some.

I see. Thats great. Thanks for your information.

After clicking through a couple of posts to find this handy list of yours, I'm finally here! Thanks for sharing it. I'm happy to see I only had to remove one witness vote for delegating to minnowbooster and this gives me the opportunity to cast my vote on a few others too!

Throwing you an upvote on your latest post, since this one has already paid out.

Aww thank you! Glad you made it here through the Post jungle!

That's a really good set you had already having only needing to remove one vote, happy to see you have a similar criteria on how to pick 'em :)

Yeah, I haven't used all of my witness votes, because there are plenty of names in there that I don't know much about. I tend to only vote for those I know do good stuff, either because I've seen it with my own eyes, or heard it from a source I trust well.

Heck, I'm not even sure what exactly the votes do, but 'they' say it's important, so we should use them!

Would it be shameful for me to state that I have a shared witness with @paulag called @steemcommunity? 😊

We are 1 post in and 1 week old.

Basically, the more votes a witness has, the more blocks they produce and the more they are paid.

As myself and Paula delegate out a good amount of SP for free, and support communities like @curie, we think our witness is worth a look 😁

That sounds good, you've got my vote!

Just don't start supporting voting bots ;-)

Thank you very much! :D

ohh I've been called some names this week for being against them, don't worry about that!

I really wanted to write "Good post" @abh12345, so you would give me the "HUH?!? " comment too! haha
....but this stuff is no laughing matter, is it?! I'm considering letting you be my proxy, which is huge for me because I'm big on controlling my own stuff, so to speak. I've got 15 or so voted on, but so many of those are on your list. I'm following this closely, but seriously, I'm private message you if I want you to take over, because truthfully, I trust your judgement and I trust your intentions even more.

I'm tagging @thedarkhorse here because he recently wrote a post wondering who to vote for so I know he's going to want to be in on this too.

Thanks for all you do Asher!

Don't you dare 'good post' me! :D

My intentions are perhaps better than my judgement, but I think i'm on the right track with regards to Witness votes. I have a few spare but those will only be given once I know 'enough' to decide.

Thank you also for all the good vibes that you bring!

hahaha I just couldn't do that to you :)

This has just made me decide, my new proxy buddy! I'll get Brian to do the same because I know he hasn't voted for any. And truthfully, change whatever you want on my list because, well, that's what proxy means haha See, it's hard for me to give up control ;)

Good call, @lynncoyle1.
If I would trust anyone with my list of witnesses (which for now, I don’t, ‘cos I’m a giant CTRL-freak myself -lol), it would be Asher!

I just know I'll never get around to researching them all! Sometimes it feels good to give a little control away :)

Ehm... I’m not sure I’m ready to agree with that, @lynncoyle1 ;0)

For now, I’ve voted for the people that have actively put in an effort when I was hacked. And some people that are providing services I use daily. I go slow, one witness at a time.

Yep I hear you loud and clear ;) I have about 15 selected, but I know Ash has the same ideals as me, and already knows a lot more than me, so...it seems like a win-win.

Scratch it off my list of to-do's. 'choosing witnesses'...done!

Being tagged notifications really needs to be part of the steemit platform! Thanks for the message on discord to point me here.

@abh12345 thanks for taking the time to compile this list. I am going to have to review it against those I'm supporting.

Still not decided if bidbots are truly bad for steemit, but the way they are currently run isn't acceptable IMO.

I would love to be part of an account that is there to review content and give out downvotes for poor content that uses bots or other "arrangements" to get far to many rewards for the content provided. Stolen content and scammers getting not only the post reviewed nuked, but the entire account. Would need some serious delegations for this, but would be willing to put in time towards the efforts and give a list 2-3 times weekly of those who got flagged and why.

@thedarkhorse, nice to meet you. Any friend of @lynncoyle1 is my friend too ;0)

I’ve seen a post by @sneaky-ninja about setting up a new @sneaky-ninja abuse policy.
Basically, the post said that @sneaky-ninja will set up a team of people (called @steembotcleaners) to manually go through all votes that have been bought, and will deal with plagiarism and low-quality content.

I don’t know how they will manage to deal with it, but if you ask me, it is a step in the right direction...

Any friend of @lynncoyle1 is my friend too ;0)

Agreed and took a quick look at your latest posts. Added you to my follow list.

I have seen the post about the changes that sneaky-ninja is testing and very interested to see how that all plays out...and if it lasts. Really hoping that it will clean things up a little and maybe with less spammers buying votes there will be room for quality posts to use these services once and a while to get some exposure without loosing your butt doing so.

True.
But the question remains: who will decide what’s a quality post and what’s not? And why can’t a short post be of more quality than a long one?

Anyways, I’m just really glad to see that people are finally taking steps to do something about it. Because if nothing is done, SteemIt will go down. The trending page which is basically the main SteemIt advertisement, looks aweful. The wrong people and the wrong posts are being rewarded, and a wrong message is sent to the ‘outside world’.

Even if this @steembotcleaners experiment fails, it is good to see a bot owner being aware of the problem and willing to take steps to make a change. It might be the beginning of the future...

Btw, thanks for the follow ;0)

Quality is subjective, but cut & paste plagiarism and stolen photos/meme/videos don't deserve rewards. This is about original content not stealing from others and getting paid for it.

My pleasure @thedarkhorse; I'm glad you found it. I see that you've met @simplymike too...both of your introductions are very sweet...warms my heart.

It is good to see that at least it's all been noticed and something may be done about it. But I agree with @simplymike...some of it's pretty subjective, so who decides all of that? It would be nice however to get rid of the obvious spammy junk though!

True. Often the difference between junk and ‘no-junk’ is like black and white, but there is also a grey zone.
I’ll just be happy if the real junk posts will be filtered out.

(I ust admit I do feel a little offended by being rejected by Smartsteem - that’s where the question about who decides what’s quality and what’s not came from, lol. I know I’m not a top notch writer, but I’m definitely not the worst...)

It should be easy to get rid of the obvious junk, right?!

I didn't know about you and Smartsteem. Their loss if you ask me! :)

There’s indeed a lot of crap that can be filtered out without having to look at it twice ...

And thanks, @lynncoyle1
Nice thing to say (but don’t you always - lol)

Well I mean every word of it missy! :)

I think I should update myself with my votes to the witnesses, I need a guide, I want to know everyone's work, I only voted for 20.

20 is a good start I think.

Here's the full list: https://steemian.info/witnesses

Thanks @abh12345,

Not only for the informative post but also the flags against that bid bot abuser we have been working on. I was able to get them blacklisted on maybe a few bots but doesn't seem to be enough.

I have a bit of ambivalence towards the abuse fighting witnesses that own bots so I retain a few votes that I otherwise would have pulled. Maybe these witnesses should use their amassed power to destroy the advances made by bid bot abusers. If I see anything less than decisive action from them, my bot supporting witness votes are going to be pulled. All of them.

Thanks for bringing them to the attention of the community.

Like many, I would rather use my VP/SP to upvote the good, and not down vote the bad, but I think everyone should not be afraid to down vote when the abuse is obvious, as it is in this case.

Same.

This would be excellent. Slayer Sunday. The main bots join forces and wipe out all the junk that is compiled by the community each week.

I think @smartsteem have a 97% return rate on your investment. What if this was changed to 90%, and 7% was used to combat abuse?

And the other main Bots took a voting break for a round or two on a day of the week to also flag a community compiled list?

I'm sure the delegators to SS would not mind a small reduction in returns, and that the main bots are making enough to miss a round or two a week.

I think it would be a really positive move for the community and raise the positive profile of the Bid-bots.

Thanks!

I know you are a master of data analysis here on STEEM and I woke up with an idea....

Is it possible to make a list of the top accounts utilizing bid-bots? The account name, how much total they spend, how much they receive back in votes, and which bots they are using... it seems like the trending pages and the top posts in all categories are from bid-botters

Hey Jeff

The first part would be quite easy - accounts and spends, but the 2nd part a bit tougher.

Most of Trending is fueled via the Bots for sure, and sadly I think this is likely to be the case for a while now...

wow this is an eye opener and a great resource for those still trying to chose a witness

Cheers Paula!

Not many witnesses have or support bots. So I could conclude that witnesses are not really fans of the bots. On the other hand I could say they are not against bots. Cause as far as I know there is no witness that wants to do anything about it....

Hmzz, maybe I'm mistaking, one of them tried to prove a few times the ridiculously of the bots because you can basically get anything hot or trending. Perhaps that was markymark?

Anyways I'm against bots, but it seems I can not even do the smallest thing to get them whiped out of Town.

Yes you could say that from the numbers. You could also say that that 55% of the top 20 are very into Bidbots.

...because you can basically get anything hot or trending. Perhaps that was markymark?

Are you referring to this? https://steemit.com/trending/@themarkymark/trending-153

...but it seems I can not even do the smallest thing to get them wiped out of Town.

Indeed :/

Yup, that was the post from markymark I was referring to. I think yallapi is also against bots. But it looks like he is no witness. Or not in the top 50.

They normally say if you can't beat them, join them. So let me consider that for a while.
Issue with joining them is that I don't have any Steem or SBD, so that doesn't look like a possibility. Well I think I just concentrate on fun stuff 😀

Sounds like a plan to me!

Keep being awesome bro. I'm fairly new to the platform as well, and the main idea behind vote bots (to push good contents up) was defeated long ago. i'm pretty sure we'll look into these issues as a community someday. who knows. In the mean time, The fun stuff it is.
