Why the word 'innovation' gets me steamed
Today everyone seems to have the next most innovative product. By many standards I am sure there are those that truly do have the next generation of ideas. But that doesn't mean anything if you can't convince others on your idea, let alone gain funding. When it comes to innovation and entrepreneurship programs, they want that dedication, the overwhelming need to pursue a dream. You have taken the time to do your due diligence and research long and hard on your idea and by George you think you've done it! With your idea you set out in search of someone to back your idea, I always imagine a person walking through one of those neon sign montages for this part. In big lights you see innovative, tech, clean-energy, new company, start-up, bold, dollar signs. When everything seems to be going so well...all the lights are turned off. You have an idea that could potentially change the way we use or approach an entire industry and you meet all the requirements the person asks of you. Then you learn the true meaning of "innovation", to them this means something I know very well that I have done before with little to no surprises. So more often then not, entrepreneurs with real new ideas are left out in the cold because of false advertising, excuses and avoidance. It's fine to be looking for a specific product or service that suits you, by all means. Just don't dangle the idea of true innovation in front of those who are truly striving for it, just to rip it from their hands. The word innovation should hold a standard of higher achievement and thought. Not I took someone else's idea and put my name on it. I only hope the fad wears off soon so those of us with the ability to truly leave a great impact are given our voice back once more.
