SLC25-W3 // "Caprese Salad"
• Tomatoes (1 medium).
• Mozzarella cheese slices(3 medium).
• Cabbage (3-4)
• Olive oil(1 tablespoon)
• Lemon juice (1 teaspoon)
• Black pepper (1 pinch)
• Salt(2 pinch)
• Oregano (1 pinch optional)
Take 1 cm width of tomato slices which I cut by using a medium size tomato.
I have these cheese slides that are round in their shape and it will be used in assembling of ingredients.
I take cabbage leaves and keep it first while assembling ingredients and then at second I keep tomato slices and then cheese slice.
I continued the above sequence and in this way I am here successful in assembling of all ingredients.
Here I am sprinkling oregano,pepper and salt little by little in minimal quantities at salad.
It's a time to add olive oil and lemon juice in above mentioned quantities at salad for giving a good taste and texture.
This is final look of salad with current date,main tag and username!
Caprese salad is an Italian dish in which there is fresh mozzarella cheese,firm red tomatoes and basil leaves are added which are normally topped with olive oil and balsamic vinegar but I have added cabbage leaves instead of basil leaves as basil are not available in Pakistan as well in place of balsamic vinegar I used lemon to give a more rich and natural flavor to salad.
If I talk about flavour of salad then I feel sweetness from firm tomatoes,creamy flavor from mozzarella cheese,a herbaceous and salty juicy taste from cabbage leaves and sour taste from lemon juice so overall all these ingredients were balancing eachother greatly so it's taste definitely meet my expectations because already I was thinking that salad flavor will be very creamy,juicy, crunchy and cheesy.
Tomatoes are rich in vitamin A, C, and K as well as it have a lot of antioxidant properties due to a component presence in it named lycopene as well due to these properties tomatoes also removed excess cholesterol and support heart health.
Mozzarella cheese is rich in protein due to which muscle health may improve and higher calcium content makes bones stronger.
Cabbage leaves contains high levels of C and K vitamins and minerals including potassium and manganese as well as like tomato these are also rich in antioxidants which boost immune system and support health of digestive system too.

Following are some special tips for making caprese salad!
• Cut tomato slices of 1 cm width almost and cheese slides of equal width or a bit less than tomato.
• Use just 1 teaspoon of lemon juice for sprinkling because otherwise it will give a strong sour taste that will not give good flavor when mix with tomato.
• As I have chooses cabbage leaves so it is important to avoid dark green or red cabbage but sweet taste cabbage including Savoy cabbage can be used.
• Cabbage leaves may be cut in shape of basil leaves that looks longitudinal in shape for mimic basil leaves shape.
• Use minimal amount of pepper,salt or other flavouring including oregano for sprinkling for giving a more healthy and fresh touch to salad.
• Be careful while assembling all ingredients that they should not not too close or too far from each other.
