‘My grandma is an old environmental pig’
In case you've yet to hear about it, here's a charming video of a re-worded German children's song recently released by Cologne radio station WDR, in which an all-girl choir berates their grandmothers for being 'old environmental pig(s)'. Make sure you watch it until the end, where the girls creepily mime along to a recording of Saint Greta declaring “we will not let you get away with this.”

The video was subsequently pulled from WDR's site after protests, and the whole affair has caused something of an uproar in Germany, with conflict erupting along predictable fault lines - liberal/left vs populist/conservative. 'Antifa' even played the role of stormtroopers for the liberal faction after disrupting a demonstration held by those incensed by this blatant propagandising of children and sowing of division between generations. And thanks to the carefully engineered political dynamic, since the far right has exploited this to their own ends (the organisation hosting this video being a case in point – as it happens, it was the only place on the internet where it's presented with subtitles), the concerns of all of the protestors can hence be dismissed by 'right-thinking’ Germans. The perfect foil. Meanwhile, we continue to sleepwalk towards something Orwell chillingly described in Nineteen Eighty-Four:
"The children, on the other hand, were systematically turned against their parents and taught to spy on them and report their deviations. The family had become in effect an extension of the Thought Police. It was adevice by means of which everyone could be surrounded night and day by informers who knew him intimately."
