SAVING THE TREES!😀..................................... NORTHWEST ADVENTURES! 😀
Saving the Trees!😇
“Did you hear that Liz, someone isn’t happy with Silvertop!” 🙄
I watched as a squirrel, (that you can see in the right top of the second photo), stop halfway up a tall western red cedar tree…………….
He was “sassing” Silvertop for invading his Forest!😳
After he thoroughly let me know he disapproved of my presence, he scurried quickly up the tree, out of sight!
On one of my recent hikes, I discovered another notched tree deep in the forest. Mr. Squirrel jumping from tree to tree, didn’t even realize that one of “HIS” tree’s was very lucky to still be standing!😇
Lumber companies call trees like you see in the first photo “Spar Trees” or “anchor Trees”!😮
These are sacrificial trees left standing, usually wrapped with steel cables to pull logs across steep, terrain or uphill!😮
More often than not, this kills the tree………..
This particular tree, now hundreds of years old, and over one hundred feet tall, is very healthy!🤗
After a long jump, Mr squirrel made his way up this tree………….
I’m sure he is happy this tree was spared, Silvertop definitely is as well!👍😊
If you read my post yesterday, you can see that timber harvesting is a balancing act……………..
Harvesting younger trees, preserving the ancient trees, and replanting……….
These are key points, to assuring we will have much needed lumber, and beautiful green forests for generations of both two legged, and four legged creatures to enjoy!😊
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike 😊
