If you do not get water, it will not work for the harmonious: Fakhrul
The people of Bangladesh will not accept the promise of maintaining good relations with India by cutting the fair share of Teesta river water, said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
In response to the speech made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Santiniketan in West Bengal, BNP secretary general said this.
In an an iftar ceremony on Saturday afternoon, he said, "The Prime Minister spoke about the cordial relationship there. For this cordial relationship, then what are the problems of our lives and our water, our 158 rivers need the rights - what will we forget about those problems?
"Will those who live in the Basin of the Teesta river or other rivers coming from India, who do not address them, will their livelihood be stopped?"
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the inauguration ceremony of Bangladesh Bhaban at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan on Friday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also there.
Both Prime Ministers commented on Bangladesh and India's friendly relations as examples of bilateral relations to other countries in the world. The neighbors have expressed their optimism about the problems that are still there between the two countries, through a friendly environment.
Mirza Fakhrul says his team also wants good relations with India.
"But that relationship should be with full mutual interest. It is not my job to make others' interests vulnerable to my interests. "
To Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, she said, "Today you claim that you are the most popular leader of this country. If you are popular, you will not only agree to the problems of my country, but you will not only accept this kind of harmony.
After the Awami League came to power in 2009, talks with India for exchange of enclaves and Teesta water sharing deal began. In September 2011, India's then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was scheduled to sign the Teesta agreement on the Dhaka visit, but it was stuck at the last moment of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's objection.
After the change of power in Delhi, after the BJP government headed by Narendra Modi, the problems of the Teesta agreement have not been opened even after a few decades of border problem was addressed.
About this, Mirza Fakhrul said, "I have been hearing for 10 years- Awami League has come to the agreement of sharing of Teesta river water. Not even today My man was killed like a bird at the border. That could not stop the matter yet. "
BNP secretary general said that dialogue with Teesta as well as to resolve the Rohingya issue is important.
He said, "The Rohingya issue should first have talked to China and India. I would say, talk about these problems. That's what everyone wants. We hope that people of this country expect their issues to be discussed when the country becomes a representative of the country. "
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged all to unite 'democracy' in the country to celebrate the 'Iftar' Mahfil of the National People's Party (NPP), one of the 20 party allies in the city's Motijheel hotel.
The government is making a "one-sided" election, she said, "The government is sitting on a nation like the Jagadala stone, to remove it today, it is necessary to create a national unity. That unity should be created not only in 20 groups, but with all other democratic political parties - for a purpose we want a free and fair election to establish democracy.
"To make that election, the government must resign, the Prime Minister will have to resign and form a neutral government."
NPP chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad gave welcome speech at Iftar Mahfil.
