What to do when the ship left you in Dumaguete!
We went to Bohol for the graduation ceremony of my brother. We travelled from Misamis Occidental via Dapitan-Dumaguete-Bohol. Unfortunately, while waiting at the Dapitan port, our ocean jet for Dumaguete was delayed by an hour. By the time we were in the sea, big waves were welcoming us so the ocean jet could not properly sail. Instead of 1pm arriving, we arrived in Dumaguete at 3pm and the ship going to Bohol already left us. The next schedule was 11pm so we decided to explore Dumaguete for 7 hours.
Welcome to the City with a Charm of a Town!
Dumaguete comes from the local word "Daguit", which means to snatch. It was named worked by the repeated slave raids on this small coastal village by sea-faring pirates from the very far south. To defend against further attacks and abductions, the Spanish missionaries built a fortress around the early settlement.
Locals would say, "nadagit ko sa Dumaguete", (Dumaguete got me)
Near the seaport, they have their very long boardwalk facing the sea. People love to standby here because it was nice and relaxing. There is no problem when you're hungry because next to this long boardwalk are plenty of cafes and restaurants.
Also, few walks from here are their city. You can ride a tricycle or just walk. If you don't have a budget for cafes and restos, you can eat in the street adjacent to the boardwalk. Its a street but every 5 pm, the street will be filled with tables and chairs. They sell balot, tempura, kwek kwek and other street foods.
SISTERS OF ST. PAUL OF CHARTRES
In the end of the boardwalk I saw this statue.
The employee of Saint Paul Chartres arrives from the invitation of Monsigor Frederick Z. Rooker to help the education of the youth of Negros. The mothers of SPC first landed in Dumaguete.
And if you're tired, you can rest at their seaport. They have wifi, you can also charge your phone, enjoy watching tv or else sleep(if there are a lot of empty chairs)
Other than this nice and relaxing place, Dumaguete has more tourist spot that you will enjoy unfortunately, our time was just limited that's why we just ended up in the boardwalk and their city. Maybe next time, I can go to the other places.
We recommended this post here.
