Things I learned about Butterflies from the Bohol Butterfly Sanctuary
We all know how butterflies turn from an egg into a butterfly but here in Bohol Butterfly Sanctuary, there are some facts I learned:
Bohol Butterfly Sanctuaries have been established by butterfly enthusiasts and are now gaining recognition. There are more or less 300 butterfly species native to the province and the sanctuaries are aiming to conserve and raise the butterfly population in the island.
AS WE ALL KNOW THE BUTTERFLY CYCLE
EGG
LARVA
PUPA
AND THEN BUTTERFLY
BUTTERFLIES LIVE ONLY 21 DAYS
Once it will become an adult, a butterfly has only 2-3 short weeks to live, in most cases. During that time, it focuses all its energy on two tasks – eating and mating. Some of the smallest butterflies, the blues, may only survive a few days. In order to maintain their species, they lay an average of between 100 to 300 eggs depending on the species.
FOODS OF A BUTTERFLY
they say that this flower is their favourite. In my province, we call this "utot-utot". "Utot in english is fart but in Bohol, they call it "baho-baho". "Baho" means bad smell.
GENDER OF A BUTTERFLY
the butterfly from the above is a male butterfly and below is a female butterfly. Female butterfly is more bigger than the male because of the eggs inside it
UNEQUAL SIZE OF WINGS
They say that butterflies having unequal wings is called the gay/lesbian butterfly because of the other wing is big(female) and the other is small(male).
THE LARGEST BUTTERFLY IN THE PHILIPPINES
They say that the largest butterfly in the Philippines can be found in one of the butterfly sanctuaries in Bohol. By the look of it in the picture, it seems like a normal size butterfly but this is really large in real.
