Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 07/12/18> Making the top 10… and more surprises.

in #blog7 years ago

I happened to see the list that the Steem Poker League published the other day that shows the standing for current player of the month points and I have cracked the top ten as of the time the list had published. I didn’t crack it very well, as I am in tenth place but making it in to that spot is pretty good all things considered.

Steem Poker League
There are some real good poker players over there in the Steem Poker League and evidently they have a lot of time on their hands to play cards. The current leader has like 685 points so far this month and has played in 30 tournaments. Second place in the standings is at 677 points and has played in 29 tournaments. I don’t have the time these folks have to play and my 10th place and measly 339 points doesn’t sound like much, and it isn’t, but I have only played in 14 tournaments.

If you dig a little deeper though and divide the points by the number of tournaments it is a whole different ball game and then my numbers are a bit more impressive. My 339 points over 14 tournaments has me earning an average of 24.21 points per tournament, no one else in the top 10 has a better point to tourney average than that, and the leader’s average is 22.85. So even though tenth place doesn’t seem like anything to crow about, I’ll just keep plugging along knowing I am as good as any of those others higher up the leader board with the way I am currently playing.

This is the first time I have paid any attention to these statistics as it was included in the write up covering the Monday night $20 SBD tournament sponsored by @adsactly and won by yours truly. So thanks @adsactly for sponsoring the Monday night games over there, I know myself and all the players appreciate your support of the league.

Speaking of first’s; and no that wasn’t the first tournament I’ve won, I did get another first this week here on steemit.com. At least it is the first legitimate one I am aware of, I’ve gotten a couple others before but those were my own doing. Oh, what is that other first you say?

Down vote or flagged, which ever you prefer to call it, I got my first just last night. If it wasn’t my first it is the first one my little darling Gina informed me about. I didn’t recognize the name in the notification from Gina and I thought to myself; "just how could what I wrote in the Daily Dose for Wednesday cause someone to take issue with me over talking about being left handed and everything being set up in the world for right handed people."

Then it hit me, here I am bitching about some little difficulties and there are some folks that don’t even have any arms and you don’t hear them complaining. Sure enough, that was the case, and here is this American spouting off and wouldn’t you know the one who flagged me appears to be Russian. Vladimere Topiev didn’t leave a comment, just popped me with a down vote, and I guess moved on with his business.

Oh you’re wondering how I know Vlad doesn’t have any arms? I went and checked on Vlad and it is plain as day that this person has no arms, along with several other things it doesn’t have. Turns out that this account is a bot; a down vote bot at that. I looked on steem block explorerer and it is solid down votes page after page after page, I went back several pages before I actually found where this bot had up voted something. Check the link for yourself if you think I am joking. Why would someone go to the time and expense to set up a bot just to go down vote regular old posts like what I produce?

Or could this be a sign of things to come where the bots start turning against the system? It may be where we start seeing this happen with a lot more frequency if these bots can now start deciding to go rogue and do as they please. I wasn’t happy that I got a down vote, and I am damn sure not happy it came from a bot. If I deserve a down vote that is fine, I would at least like it to be from someone that actually read what I wrote and got angry with me for what I wrote.
The humans over at Curie must have liked it; I just saw a message from Gina saying @curie commented on my post, I need to go see what that is all about.
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

whaaa?? congrats on the fab win and what fun. i know you told me about it awhile ago but i never joined. i'm not sure i would be as good as you but it really does look like a hoot! congrats again.

You only get better by playing and learning the players. Poker is a game of patience and most people can't seem to understand that. You should get over there and join, it is free to join and play.
Thanks for the congratulations. Maybe I'll see you over there soon?

@sultnpapper ok, i know you've said that but i want someone to sit with me and teach me. LOL
i'm horrible like that. can you share the link? please :)

Here is the link to Lucksacks, when you go to that site there is a link on there for their discord channel. Just click on that link and then when you are in their discord there should be information on how to join. https://www.lucksacks.com/

I can't sit and teach you but I can give you some pointers and help you once you get approved to play.

@sultnpapper oh okay cool! pointers are a great help, i'm going right now! oh man, they want all my "real" info to join. :(

what, real info? They didn't ask me for any real info. What the hell is real info anyways? Isn't your name Eagle Spirit ?

hehe!!
they want my name, address, telephone, etc. when i went to the w/s.
like all my "real" info as in track me down info ...

you were trying to join the steem poker league and they asked all of that? I never heard of such a thing. Unless some things have really changed, all they wanted when I joined was the name you wanted to "play" under, your steemit name and REP and also how long you had been on steemit. That was it, the went and looked at your blog and if you were a straight up steemian and really being active they let you in, I don't when this changed if it has.

Yep, that is about the truth. I liked that movie, we actually have it on dvd and watch it about every year or so.
Old habits are hard to break for you too I guess. Welcome back.

I never really left... What can I say, I'm just crazy.. I can't help it sometimes...

I think we all fall into that category to some degree.

I did a search for Vladimere Topiev and apparently it's part of a revenge attack on people who upvote @steemcleaners or @abusereports.
Not only that - the bots steal people's identity, so you could end up blaming an "innocent" Steemian for the flag.
I can't understand what they get out of it when they have such a low rep their actions are virtually meaningless. I suppose it's just a reflection of the way life is – every positive development attracts sad, vengeful losers who try to get ahead by devious means.

That would make sense on the cleaners part since I have supported that in the recent past. Thanks for letting me know. from all the down votes that bot is throwing out there it looks like there are plenty of folks supporting the cleaner's bot .

I've just had my first downvote now, from that Vlad bot thing. Can't work out if it's actually eaten into my rewards at all - doesn't appear to have had any effect at all! It's probably because I followed @neutralizer :)

It didn't effect mine, it doesn't have enough strength to even get out of its own way when I looked at it. A 25REP, no steem power , and it has voted so much it was like 80 hours before it could even make it to full strength on a vote, so net imapct is $0.000

When you look at the per tournament stats thats pretty impressive and well done

I havent played Poker for over 20 Years, Maybe I should try and find the time sometime to join a tournament,I will not need a lot of time I wont last long lOL

You have to sign up and get a membership approved first before you can play so get the ball rolling and then come play. They are a good group of people and who knows you might just surprise yourself.

@sultnpapper I will look into it on the weekend :)

Pretty impressive poker playing, @sultnpaper. Congrats on the win. Too bad about the bots down voting. It is getting to be a little tiring...

Thanks Ceci, if I had more time to play I think I could be right up there contenting for the lead, but other things have priority. The bots are the bots I guess, just like people there are some good ones and some bad ones, created by the same types of people.

A down vote bot? That is just great. Why would anyone even?

I guess because they can, just a guess.

As good as a guess as anyones.

Flagging is a hot topic around here and I can see good points for both sides. A bot automating downvotes ain't one of'em.
