Apotheosis: The case against Happiness

in #blog5 years ago

People tend to talk about themselves more often than you think.

It used to be impolite to do so just a few decades ago, but hey, things change.

The issue is that this self-aggrandizement is not embedded in self-awareness, rather it's mostly a product of an underachieving ego.

An Experiment Gone Wrong

See, back in the 60s a few fruity psychologists noticed a trendς; successful people tend to be more confident, positive, and happy.

DUH!

Who's surprised?

Well, these geniuses decided that the reason they were successful was BECAUSE they were confident, positive, and happy.

Fooled by randomness.

They figured if they could somehow raise the self-esteem of the general public, a positive social change might occur.

That's why we have participation trophies and we praise how WONDERFUL EVERY PERSON IS.

Pathetic.

Turns out, 50+ years later, this circle jerk doesn't produce more geniuses nor millionaires. Social scientists were wrong once again.

Embracing the Invidual

If you've been following me for some time, you already know what makes someone successful:

  • Solving problems
  • Doing hard work (vs working hard)
  • Being intelligent
  • Enduring long-lasting pain

And you can't wiggle your way out of these things, no matter how many self-talk techniques you use.

What we did was wrong. Instead of celebrating the primacy of the individual, we decided to play it nice and accommodate the public. The masses.

We prefer mass delusion vs a hardened soul that pierce through any obstacle.

You.

Wait, not the ugly one. The guy behind you.

Yes, you.

The apotheosis is about you.

Living alone with the Gods.

Raising your spirit to meet the demands of our age. Hardening your body and mind.

The case against Happiness is a poem aimed at people who chase some sort of emotional high all the time, trying to meet the expectations of the masses.

Don't feel good. BE good

THE END.
