The Diary Game: An ordinary day in the middle of the week
In my free time when I’m not busy with my hobbies, including Steemit, I live a regular life, just like any other one. I work at an eye clinic and make scleral hard lenses. But that’s probably the last thing I’ll be writing about in my blog. My blog is relatively new, and I’ve decided to start a section called “The Diary Game.” That means I’ll be writing aboutt how my day went. I’ll try to do this as often as possible, but writing every single day will probably be difficult for me, so... I can’t promise daily posts.
My day usually starts with getting up for work at 5:30 a.m. I live in Israel, in the city of Kiryat-Bialik . If someone doesn’tt know, that’s in the northern part of the country. I drive to work in Haifa, and the way takes about 40 minutes. The time depends on the traffic. Sometimes traffic jams seriously add extra time to the trip. But those moments are unpredictable. My wife gets up with me, and we usually have breakfast together. Though she leaves for work a bit later, she doesn’t need to be in the office too early, and her workplace is very close by. But we’ve gotten used to a certain rhythm: breakfast together, lunch together, and so on — except for when it’s just not possible. And in this way, we feel a kind of harmony, and we like sticking to that routine.
My workday is pretty intense. The job is split between seeing clients and doing lab work. I have to keep an eye on how the new lenses come out, I need to prepare semi-finished products for further processing, I have to prepear certain blanks for 3D printing or print an iris pattern on a blank using a UV printer. Everything takes time. There’s plenty to do, but unfortunately, patient work takes up most of my time, and more often than not, I don’t manage to get to the secondary tasks.
Tuesdays are usually my short days. We work from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. , but today I didn’t manage to finish on time and had to stay a bit longer. As soon as I left work, I had to hurry to get to the cobbler, because my wife had asked me to bring him two pairs of sandals for repair. And honestly, I was worried I wouldn’t make it. This guy has a very flexible work schedule. Sometimes he just leaves whenever he feels like it, and you have to guess when he’s actually there to catch him and place an order. But I got lucky. I made it, and the guy was there.
In recent years, I’ve been feeling a real sense of burnout at work. The whole process is constantly rushed. There’s just no way to get everything done in such conditions. And that exhaustion piles up. I’m startingf to get used to being tired. And to be honest , that scares me. So... why am I even saying this? Just to point out that even on a short workday, like today, I still end up exhausted after just five hours of work. So after wrapping up a couple of errands, I rushed home to get a bit of rest. Lie down under the air conditioner for at least 30 minutes. And then I can get on with something else — chores or whatever else might need doing.
It’s getting noticeably hot in Israel now, and to be honest, walks outside aren’t all that enjoyable anymore. Almost every day it’s a cloudless sky, and at the same time, the humidity is extremely high. I personally prefer a European climate, but life turned out in such a way that I live in the Middle East.
