Morning on the Road
Every day at 7 a.m., my journey to work begins on a highway that bypasses the Haifa suburb called Krayot and leads directly into Haifa itself. The most interesting part is that the drive takes me no more than 7 minutes. I can’t really say how many kilometers that is, but... it’s the time I drive at a speed of 105–110 km/h. But as soon as I get close to Haifa, terrible traffic jams begin, and the remaining 30 minutes of the drive take place within the city limits. Most of the time the traffic is very heavy , especially during the morning rush between 7:30am and 9am. Fortunately, I drive much earlier than that time.
I would divide drivers into three categories.. The first – those who annoy everyone. They drive slower than anyone else. For example, if the speed limit is 90 km/h they drive at 80 or 70 km/h.
The second category – drivers who drive just right. They follow the allowed maximum speed. They don’t exceed it, but somehow, everyone overtakes them. And in the end, they also start to annoy people a little.
The third category – those who drive a bit faster than everyone else. I consider myself to be in this category . I usually exceed the speed limit in 5–10 km/h. I just can’t drive slower . I don’t know why. It’s probably something psychologically. But I arrive a bit earlier than what Google Maps navigation tells me.
And the fourth category of drivers – the racers. Let me describe the situation a little . You're driving calmly, minding your own business . And suddenly something whooshes past you on the left. And you feel your car shake a little as if from a gust of strong wind. And you don’t understand what it was, since you yourself are going 100 km/h. You try to see what kind of car just flashed by at crazy speed. But you can’t see it, because it’s already far ahead. That’s just insane.
Well, I’ve shared a bit about my commute to and from work. Within city limits, the speed limit is 50 km/h. In my opinion, that’s just mockery of normal drivers who’ve been driving for at least three years. Sometimes the road is clear, but you can’t speed up because of this restriction . Sometimes the road feels like a damn highway , but the speed limit won’t let you go faster. Yes, laws are made to protect someone, to restrict someone, but there should be logic everywhere. Unfortunately, in some places , logic is just missing. Well... to everyone who drives, I wish you green lights and a calm and safe environment on the road. Good luck to all!
