RE: Must you comply?

in #blog7 years ago

I heard about this and like you was amazed at the compliance by the dog owners. There will always be people who abuse their position of power, but I don't think this was an example of that; just a perfect example of stupidity overall.

There was a famous experiment called The Stanford Prison Experiment from the early 1970's setting out to examine people's perception of power and their tendency to blindly follow it. I used to use it when teaching high school seniors...it will blow your mind...check it out :)

Cheers!

Hey Lynne. Hope all is going well for you and yours.

Yes, I am familiar with the Stanford thing. It's scary how human beings can change and behave so appallingly and so readily. The Milford experiment is another example of what people will do when told by those in authority - we are not what we think we are!

So true!! That's funny; I used to include the Milford experiment in those lessons too! Kids were always shocked by both and fairly adamant that they wouldn't behave in the same manner, but after some discussion, they began to see how easy it would be!

Cheers :)

We have both had a brain fart! I let rip first, though. It's Milgram, not Milford!

This getting old stuff is very over-rated!

haha you're right!! As I was typing, I thought that it didn't seem quite right, but I went along with it haha (note the irony!!)

yes, getting old sucks :)

Irony duly noted and snarfed at!

ya, I couldn't have scripted better if I tried :)
