Rompamos el techo de cristal: TIME'S UP!

Cualquiera que sea medianamente activo en las redes sociales habrá visto que muchas actrices del mundo del cine, del teatro y de la televisión han seguido a una cuenta de Instagram que se llama Time's up, firmado la carta de solidaridad y donado un dinero a esta causa. De hecho han estado compartiendo muchos de los mensajes que ha publicado dicha cuenta. Ahora mismo este movimiento tiene un grandísimo número de seguidores y está teniendo mucha visibilidad gracias a que hay muchos famosos que están publicando alguna de las fotos que se han subido desde la cuenta de @timesupnow .

Dear Sisters,
We write on behalf of the approximately 700,000 women who work in the agricultural fields and packing sheds across the United States. For the past several weeks we have watched and listened with sadness as we have learned of the actors, models and other individuals who have come forward to speak out about the gender based violence they’ve experienced at the hands of bosses, coworkers and other powerful people in the entertainment industry. We wish that we could say we’re shocked to learn that this is such a pervasive problem in your industry. Sadly, we’re not surprised because it’s a reality we know far too well. Countless farmworker women across our country suffer in silence because of the widespread sexual harassment and assault that they face at work.
We do not work under bright stage lights or on the big screen. We work in the shadows of society in isolated fields and packinghouses that are out of sight and out of mind for most people in this country. Your job feeds souls, fills hearts and spreads joy. Our job nourishes the nation with the fruits, vegetables and other crops that we plant, pick and pack.
Even though we work in very different environments, we share a common experience of being preyed upon by individuals who have the power to hire, fire, blacklist and otherwise threaten our economic, physical and emotional security. Like you, there are few positions available to us and reporting any kind of harm or injustice committed against us doesn’t seem like a viable option. Complaining about anything — even sexual harassment — seems unthinkable because too much is at risk, including the ability to feed our families and preserve our reputations.
We understand the hurt, confusion, isolation and betrayal that you might feel. We also carry shame and fear resulting from this violence. It sits on our backs like oppressive weights. But, deep in our hearts we know that it is not our fault. The only people at fault are the individuals who choose to abuse their power to harass, threaten and harm us, like they have harmed you.
In these moments of despair, and as you cope with scrutiny and criticism because you have bravely chosen to speak out against the harrowing acts that were committed against you, please know that you’re not alone. We believe and stand with you.

Este movimiento surge de un movimiento anterior llamado #metoo o #yotambien . Muchas personalidades del mundo de Hollywood dieron un paso al frente y rompieron el silencio que siempre había reinado en torno a el acoso sexual. Es por este motivo que la Alianza Nacional de Campesinas redactó una carta en solidaridad con estas mujeres que fue publicada en la revista #Time . Os recomiendo que le echéis un vistazo. Es conmovedor como mujeres que trabajan en la sombra, que han sufrido en silencio esta violencia machista, que han sentido vergüenza e impotencia... Han sido capaces de solidarizarse, de ignorar el glamour o el dinero que ganan estas actrices, muy diferente de su realidad diaria. Ha prevalecido la unidad frente a situaciones como las que estas caras conocidas han compartido. De hecho, admiran su valentía, no sólo por romper el silencio, sino por las consecuencias que conlleva romper con todo y dar visibilidad a este problema.

En esta web los creadores de este movimiento explican que el tiempo se nos ha agotado. Afirman que no debemos tolerar por más tiempo el acoso sexual, la brecha salarial, la violencia machista... Instan a que hagamos algo al respecto. Seguro que te preguntas cómo hacerlo. Es muy sencillo. Verás una carta de solidaridad. Puedes unirte y que aparezca tu nombre en esa carta, tan solo debes hacer un donativo a la asociación sin ánimo de lucro. El mínimo son 5 dólares.

Personalmente, creo que no es una cuestión de dinero, ya que, ahora mismo, casi han llegado al tope que necesitan o más bien el que han pedido. Es una cuestión de formar parte del movimiento, de responder, de actuar, de hacer algo al respecto, de dar mayor visibilidad al problema... Se trata de romper el techo de cristal, se trata de decir ya basta, se trata de dejar claro que time's up, es decir, que el tiempo se ha agotado. Y que esta vez sea de verdad.
