5th Post Transgender men in Venezuela. Construction of gender identity of a man with vulva 2nd part
If the transsexual man needs to imitate the typical male to be recognized as a man by society, then we are reproducing the same stereotype? Do we not have all the opportunities to break them?
There is a solution?
Yes, individual awareness. And what does it mean? It means taking responsibility for our transition. And for that we need to understand the following realities:
- Our transition depends only on us, the behaviors we adopt are solely the responsibility of us and never of others.
- If we reinforce patriarchal behavior, we reinforce what oppresses us and discriminates.
- By imitating behavior "you are not becoming part of the society that discriminates against you" in reality "you are self-discriminating".
The social transition
The transition process not only consists of physical changes, but also a series of questions about how you identify yourself and how you behave now that "you look different" called "the social transition" where society as the physical changes advance, the same society presents you situations where it challenges you to demonstrate your masculinity.
We only have 2 options, the first one, to allow society to impose the kind of man you should be, the second is to rebel and take full responsibility for the process of building your masculinity, deciding moment by moment who you want to be.
What do you need to make yourself take charge of your transition?
- Courage: To rebel against society (they are all those around us)
- Consciousness: of the process that you go through, which in turn consist of several processes.
- Responsibility: of your acts and your construction that only depend on you.
- Self-determination: To build as you want
- Knowledge of yourself: To discern who you are and what behaviors are yours and what are imposed by society.
An inclusive society begins to be so when one is inclusive, a better society is built when one is better.
See you in the next post!
