Shallow Thoughts
I didn't get to see much of Austin from the ground today, but it certainly looks pretty from the air:
I'll have to come back someday with the family on a proper vacation and take in the sights.
Deep Thoughts
Here are a two stories I overheard today, and my gut reactions to them...
A relatively young manager at a company was having a retirement party. . . apparently his girlfriend had recently died of cancer and a home he owned was severely damaged in a storm, so he was stepping away from his career to focus on other things. I hope I am able to walk away from a job so that I can make the most of the last months I have with a loved one. . . leaving after they have died would fill me with regret.
A middle aged man complained that the only activity he enjoyed with his brother-in-law was drinking bourbon, but he was tired of drinking, so he bought a video game console that they could play together instead. I hope that 10/15/20/n years from now I would rather spend quality time with my wife than kill time with a forced "friend".
The more I read from Skin in the Game, the more I realize that very few people are truly free. We may not literally be the property of another person, but we are so burdened by our responsibilities and obligations that we are effectively enslaved. The question of how I can procure my own freedom will certainly be on my mind for the foreseeable future.
Bonus Thoughts
Someone lit the sky on fire tonight:
I'm really starting to enjoy these Texas sunsets :)

Thank you very much for sharing this. I feel like these moments of deep understanding in life come and go as we push through the daily grind, and then it's a little too late to benefit from the wisdom.
I'm pretty sure I'm undergoing a slow, steady transition now where the "rat race" is looking more and more absurd. One of these days I'll wake up and realize that I have enough and decide that I've had enough. It'll be a glorious day, the first day of the rest of my life.
Aww thank you so much for that...the sentiment I mean, although the upvote is very kind as well!
The day you finally get your little hamster claws around the cage door and jump off that wheel...it will be a memorable one! ;)
...and I can't really remember the day I sat back and thought, "this is all really stupid", but I do remember the feeling of when I figured it out and so much of every day life seemed like nonsense; and when talking with once-like-minded-people/co-workers, pure drivel.
Thanks again!

happy to enjoy your friends day, with beloved family, and always happy for you and your family @grolelo hopefully you guys in the protection of god. thank you for sharing.
The view from above looks very beautiful. And I also really like the sky images that look like burning. Yes I strongly agree with the statement that time with family is very important. Sometimes we are too busy and negligent with anything else. Hope you are always happy with your family wherever you are @grolelo.

Great photo from up in the plane very true not many people are truly free...
Glad you like the pic!
History a bit sad :( Many times we must get away from something or someone to be able to enjoy or dispose of what really moves us, Beautiful sky you captured it at the precise moment!
